Job Purpose

The DM Officer will ensure a symbiotic process of development for the National Society DRM programs, with the ultimate goal of increasing community resilience to disasters; enhance NS and their branches’ disaster readiness

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Support the Senior Disaster Management Officer in the following responsibilities:

support National Societies (NS) and the Federation in collecting, analyzing relevant data and information, in order to identify problems and formulate proposals for intervention in ongoing or new disaster management programs.

Strengthening NS programming in community resilience, contextualizing and localising Road Map to Community Resilience guide and ensure resilience approach is integrated across all NS programming areas.

Facilitate technical guidance for the National Societies on Cash Transfer preparedness and programming in different contexts.

Support the National Societies with the process of hazards mapping, development, and review of Contingency Plans, and SOPs at national and branch levels

Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices among Red Cross Movement Partners and at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.

Support the NS in the assessment, planning, implementation and reporting of disaster relief operations.

Supporting the NS in the production and timely publication of Up Date operations and any other reports.

Education

University degree in development studies, project management, disaster management or other relevant field.

Member of the National or Regional Disaster Management Team Basic training in disaster management

Experience

Experience and knowledge related to CRCR humanitarian organizations in emergency situations.

Field experience in the implementation of disaster management activities in emergencies.

5 years of experience in humanitarian organizations, through an appropriate combination of technical support and emergency roles in the field.

Experience in program planning.

Knowledge, Skills and Language

Demonstrated knowledge in the implementation of community-based disaster management programs in the humanitarian sector

Experience in capacity and vulnerability assessments, disaster risk reduction

Experience in management, monitoring, and evaluation of large sector programs.

Good reporting skills.

Good computer skills (Windows, spreadsheets, word processing).

Ability to facilitate training

Fluently spoken and written English

Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic)
