Devoirs et responsabilités

Relevant du chef de la cellule eau et assainissement (WatSan) et travaillant dans le cadre de l’unité de gestion des installations et de l’environnement, division d’appui à la mission, le spécialiste du laboratoire d’eau et d’assainissement doit (ces fonctions ne sont pas exhaustives),

• Liaise frequently with the Chief of WatSan Cell and:

o Perform all tasks related to water and wastewater quality management in the Mission in accordance with International Standards like WHO Standards.

o Ensure that planned water and wastewater samples are collected as scheduled from the Mission’s team sites (including temporary operating bases) and other authorized locations.

o Conduct water and wastewater tests physically, chemically and bacterially based on relevant WHO Guideline Values or Mission SOP.

o Perform and monitor remote water and wastewater quality tests under the FRIM (Field Remote Infrastructure Monitoring) Programme and SMART camp concept.

o Prepare water quality test reports and recommendations for improvement in quality. The tests shall be in accordance with the Mission’s Standard Operating Procedures and/or WHO Standards.

o Prepare wastewater effluent quality test reports and recommendations for improvement in quality. The tests shall be in accordance with the Mission’s Standard Operating Procedures and/or WHO Standards.

o Submit the water and wastewater testing reports in due time.

o Provide lists of necessary equipment, glassware and chemical reagents in advance of the requisitioning process.

o Monitor the equipment, glassware and chemical reagent inventory.

o Liaise with Water and Sanitation Engineer for expert advice on water treatment process and quality control & monitoring; connected with the water treatment plants and other engineering sub-units, as necessary.

o Work along with water technicians in WatSan Cell and regions on the water quality related issues.

o Train staff including selected military officers and Camp Services staff on water and wastewater sampling procedures and daily field water tests.

o Carry out ORI (Operational Readiness Inspection) and COE (Contingent Owned Equipment) inspection of uniformed personnel water quality testing equipment and water quality treatment plants.

o Perform other related functions as assigned by the Chief of WatSan Cell or his proxy.

Technical knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of water and wastewater quality testing. Knowledge of water treatment processes is an advantage.

• Good knowledge of remote water/wastewater quality testing equipment.

• Good written and oral skills, including ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports, briefings, updates and other documentation. Planning and organizational skills

• Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor work plans.

Computer Skills

• Ability to operate common Microsoft office applications especially excel and word, databases, and spreadsheet applications.

Qualifications/special skills

University degree in chemistry or microbiology or technical diploma with at least 3 years apprenticeship training in water and/or wastewater laboratory testing.

A minimum of 5 years experience working in water or wastewater laboratory carrying out quality tests is required.

Experience in remote water quality monitoring is desirable.

Experience in international military or peacekeeping engineering operations is desirable

Proven ability to work effectively with military and civilian personnel of different professions, nations and cultural background is essential

La possession d’un permis de conduire valide est requise.

Langues

Maîtrise de l’anglais écrit et parlé. La connaissance d’une deuxième langue officielle de l’ONU est un avantage.
