Job Description:
A leading mining orgainisation is looking for a Safety Superintendent for one of their operations in Mpumalanga. The role will entail ensuring safety compliance in implemented correctly on the mine, particularly in regard to OSHAS 18001 standards
Responsibilities:
Monitoring safety compliance of operations, service department, ensuring legal compliance in terms of safety is maintained to company standards
Lead and participate in site safety inspections, ensuring inspections are done properly and to required standards
Compile safety superintendent month-end reports, and oversee incident and accident investigations
Report review and final sign off high potential incidents and injuries
Liaise with external auditors when utilized and review final report and sign off
Develop and Implement base-line and issue-based risk assessments
Ensure individuals are provided with the correct development opportunities, evaluate training courses and oversee development of training material
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
National Diploma/ Degree in Safety Management
Chamber of Mines Safety Officer Certificate 1 and 2
Knowledge of OHAS 18001 standards
Diploma/ Degree in Mining Engineering advantageous
Extensive experience in health and safety, with previous experience as a safety officer essential
Experience working in the mining sector advantageous
In depth knowledge of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Regulations
Knowledge of gas testing, flame proofing, strata control
Good understanding of safety management theory, behavioural safety and risk management
