Job Description:Our client is looking for an Environmental and Communities Coordinator to provide support and management for Discovery programs in Angola.
Responsibilities:Identify social risks (either for the project and the communities) and to design mitigation actionsDesign and implement organizations social strategy aligned with organizations social wayDesign and implement communication strategy, plans and materialDevelop social investment programs according to the stage and nature of the project, and the needs of the local communitiesProactively include social engagement activities in the project planning and budgetingDeliver social mapping, stakeholder identification and analysisCoordinate social engagement plans, and related activities at a country- and projects-level, including desktop and field workAdapt the Social Way and Human Rights policy at the country and site levelEnsure the social and communities’ activities are implemented according to the SHEC policies and standardsObtain and maintain social license to operate by collaborating with key stakeholdersSupport the planning and implementation of field and desktop assessment of new opportunities/projectsStrategical planning of the environmental management plan (PMA), including scheduling, budgeting, etc., as per AA standards and local regulationsLead the implementation of the PMA´s to achieve compliance to environmental permit requirements and regulationsCoordination, organizing, scheduling, technical review, report writing, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and field technical support as per PMA´s, including environmental monitoring and samplingSupervision of environmental technicians and consultants if applicablePerforming internal inspections and facilitating regulatory inspectionsDelivery of staff environmental training/awareness/orientation programsOverall responsibility for leading and managing all water and waste issues related to our operations and activitiesAccountable for obtaining environmental and water permits if applicablePreparation of environmental-related tenders (e.g. base lines, studies, etc.)Obtain necessary environmental license when applicable to projects activitiesEnsure that all contractors follow up the PMA´s, legislations and clients standards and proceduresManage environmental databases (Landfolio, waste management, consumables, etc.)To actively engage with third parties (JV partners, contractors and other companies) to ensure alignment on environmental policies and PMA´sTo identify environmental risks and to design and implement mitigation actionsImplement environmental and social requirementsReview of incidents when applicable, ensuring that causes are understood, and controls implementedPractice safe working techniques and re-enforce the policies, guidelines, and proceduresDevelopment, and will uphold standard operating procedures. Maintain environmental-related standards up to date closely following changes in regulationsEnsure that all legal and environmental requirement on the Mining Investment Contracts (MIC´s) are fulfilled on time and per legal requirementProperly document and keep track of all stakeholder engagement actionsDeliver training on social and environmental matters to internal stakeholders: Country, project and SHE Managers, admin staff, project teams, contractors, providers and JV partnersKey stakeholders management, at various levelsActively engage with third parties (JV partners, contractors and other companies) to ensure alignment on social and environmental policiesProvide input into monthly, quarterly and annual SHEC performance and Sustainability reportsTechnical mentoring to team membersInput social and environmental data (metrics) into SHEC management systemEnsure all field activities are conducted according to the clients SHEC Way Requirements: Qualification and SkillProfessional in some of the social academic areas (Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Journalism, History, Psychology, Geography, or any other related area) or in environmental areas (e.g. Environmental Engineer).Desirable: Postgraduate in Environmental, Safety or Social Management or related subject (Master’s degree or equivalent)Experience of environmental management programmes applied to mineral exploration (e.g. early-stage exploration)Experience of social assessment techniques, and of delivering strategic social engagement plans for businesses and operationsDemonstrable knowledge of Angola social environment and local communitiesPractical experience of working at site level in developing economies, in a company, consultancy or development institutionExperience in the extractive sector with focus on greenfield exploration (highly desirable)Experience in (or working with) NGO´s;Experience of developing and delivering strategies in a professional practice areaExperience of planning and delivering local environmental programsGood knowledge of GIS analysis (e.g. ArcGIS)People management skills that ensure a collaborative working environmentStrong professional network within AngolaFrequent travel to field sites, including field work as key component of the roleFluent English & Portuguese If you wish to apply for the position please send your CV to Vivienne Gower at vgower@camining.com
