Organizational Setting

 The incumbent will be hired by FAO Angola Representation, under an NPP contract. He or she will carry out tasks related to communication and visibility in order to contribute to the clear, coherent and consistent FAO communication strategy, specialty with programs/projects initiatives.

Reporting Lines

The Communication specialist reports to the FAO Representative (FAOR).

Technical Focus 

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Office Assistant, the Communication Assistant’s main responsibility is to perform duties with the aim at promoting effective FAOR external communication and coordinating inter projects activities. The key results have an impact on projecting the image and the activities of FAO in Angola and UN System in general by demonstrating the impact of FAO development results, always with sectors/partner’s contributions, through an active and accurate information dissemination.  

Tasks and responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks: 

•    Develops visibility materials and design of layout materials on the work of FAO Angola Representation, such as brochures, pamphlet, newsletters, posters, images, reports etc; 

•    Edits relevant documents such as Country Program Framework (CPF), UN Country Program Framework (UNSDCF), Project Documents,  among others; 

•    Assists in drafting and editing articles, press release, other public information materials and reports; 

•    Supports the establishment of FAO Website, WhatsApp and Twitter by proving technical expertise on the set up process, compiling and editing the relevant information to then upload it to the internet ; 

•    Edits video and infographic video production: videographers, video editors, infographic video scriptwriters;

•    Supports and prepares public events, missions, launching ceremonies, field visits, workshops, and global FAO initiatives;

•    Provides FAOR communications support to the celebrations relevant dates and activities  based on  dissemination of message and image and promotional materials;

•    Draft, summarize and edit succinct communications pieces of varying length for different internal and external audiences in close cooperation with projects staff; 

•    Monitors the media keeping a good overall knowledge of the public debate around themes relevant to FAO mandate and programs (including in regional context); 

•    Manages photography, video and newsletter database,

•    As appropriate, work closely with the communication consultant for development and Program team to develop ideas for infographics, charts and images that creatively convey key messages/data in the manuscript;

•    Undertakes any other related duties as assigned;

•    Liaises with the Office of Communication (OCC) will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

•    Advanced university in communication, journalism or social sciences.

•    Working knowledge of English language.

•    At least 3 years working experience in the field of journalism, communications and media. Experience in copywriting and web edition.

•    National of Angola.

Selection Criteria 

•    Fluency in Portuguese and English language; 

•    Knowledge of national information rules, regulations and procedures and good communications skills;

•    Ability  to work under pressure and adapt to an evolving and complex context and within multidisciplinary and different cultural background teams; 

•    Strong IT skills;  

•    Demonstrated ability to establish good working relationship and team spirit both inside the Organization and with external partners such as government officers, UN partners, donors or NGOs. 

•    Good knowledge of development issues.
