For more information, please visit: www.hi.org INFORMATION ON THE MISSION CONTEXT Libya From 2014 to mid of 2018, HI’s Libya mission was managed remotely from neighboring Tunisia, where all international staff was based. Since last summer, a phased redeployment of international staff has been taking place, with four of the current expatriate team of nine now based in Misrata. Planning is currently taking place for a permanent expatriate presence in Tripoli, expected to be implemented during 2019. As a result of the conflict and political crisis, the collapse of the health services has considerably reduced assistance towards the most vulnerable, in particular persons with disabilities. HI is currently implementing a humanitarian programme from operational bases in Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi. Morocco/ Tunisia HI is present in Tunisia since 1992 and settled its presence permanently in the country since 1997 in order to support national initiatives aiming to foster the inclusion of persons with disabilities. Since 2011, HI promotes awareness actions and supports the emergence of the civil society aiming at enhancing the promotion and respect of the rights for persons with disabilities. HI also implements projects in inclusive rural development, inclusive education, women participation and economical inclusion in close partnership with local structures. HI also started to intervene in Morocco since 1993, conducting professional trainings for ortho prosthesis specialists, upon the request of the Moroccan Ministry of Public Health. Since 1996 the scope of intervention of HI in Morocco has largely widen and developed through different partnerships with local associations but also institutions, including training to professionals such as the implementation of inclusive development projects and support to DPOs. Currently HI Morocco implements projects in rehabilitation, inclusive education, economical inclusion, protection and migration in close partnership with local structures and local institutions.
