INTRODUCTION

This fund was established by Stephen T. Carlo (BA’75, LLB’79). Mr. Carlo played on the University of Ottawa Football Team from 1971 to 1972 and from 1974 to 1976. This fund was established in honour of Dr. William E. Carlo who was a professor of philosophy at the University of Ottawa, from 1967 until his passing away in 1971. Dr. Carlo’s wife was a professor in Fine Arts at the University of Ottawa. The donor thanks the Alumni Association of the University of Ottawa and the Government of Ontario for their matching contributions. 

PURPOSE OF FUND

To provide financial assistance to football athletes whose education would otherwise be compromised.  

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with the protected/refugee status;
  2. be registered as a full-time student athlete (as determined by the OUA and USports), and a member of the Gee-Gees football team at the University of Ottawa;
  3. be an Ontario resident, as per OSAP[2] rules; and
  4. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must apply to the Varsity Student-Athletes Scholarship (99935). Applications must be made through Online Scholarships and Bursaries, which can be accessed through uOZone, and should include the Financial Questionnaire.
