How can you make a difference?
The purpose of the proposed assignment is to provide technical support for a coordinated emergency response through critical lifesaving nutrition interventions and preventive care to vulnerable children and women in districts affected by floods and drought in Zimbabwe.
Objective (s)
 Facilitate monthly nutrition coordination meetings with all stakeholders, including NGOs and civil society and contribute to inter-cluster coordination
In collaboration with Information Management focal point, develop, update and maintain emergency information system, 4Ws and situation analysis and timely sharing of information to MOHCC, UNICEF and relevant partners involved in the emergency response districts
Support development and update of emergency preparedness and response plan of the nutrition emergency response
Provide technical assistance on scaling up the nutrition emergency response particularly in capacity building for facility and community-based health workers in the integrated management of acute malnutrition, IYCF in emergencies and micronutrient supplementation
Carry out any other task related to nutrition emergency as required
Methodology & Expected Output
Under supervision of Nutrition Specialist in UNICEF and in close collaboration with National Nutrition Department in MOHCC as well as the provincial and district health authorities, the Nutrition Emergency consultant will provide technical assistance to quality improvement of SAM treatment in low performing districts. The methodologies applied to this consultancy will include but not limited to:
Prepare an inception report showing work plan for the assignment period with monthly targets and milestones clearly identified
Submit monthly activity report, providing information and progress on each task mentioned above to supervisor as required
Compile and submit emergency situation reports as required for the nutrition sector
Submit monthly community level data on number of children screened, identified and referred for treatment of acute malnutrition, number of mother baby pairs counseled and supported for optimal infant and young child feeding, and number of children who were eligible for high dose of vitamin A who received supplementation as well as pregnant women who received iron and folate supplements
Submit monthly monitoring reports and follow-up action taken on gaps identified

Consultancy Requirements
Education
Masters Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or Health or its equivalent.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience on management of acute malnutrition in emergencies with experience in Community based health and nutrition programmes.
Knowledge of humanitarian and development issues is an asset.
Able to work within various teams and be able to contribute to the overall success of that team.
Able to demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
Ability to communicate fluently in English required.
Other Consultancy Costs and Payment Modalities
Payment will be done against the agreed deliverables. Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) for field missions outside Harare will be paid based on agreed rates between the consultant and UNICEF but conforming to UN guidelines. Therefore, the consultant will be expected to submit a technical and all-inclusive financial proposal detailing monthly professional fees, travel related costs (for an estimated 5 field travel days per month) and other miscellaneous consultancy costs for delivering this assignment if interested.  UNICEF will provide transportation support for official activities related to the assignment.
