UNICEF Côte d’Ivoire has identified Innovation as a central strategy to deliver results for children. In view of the current and emerging programming environment, UNICEF Côte d’Ivoire has decided to focus on Innovation to support ongoing UNICEF and Government efforts to strengthen national systems and improve results for children across these key sectors. The goal is to develop innovative projects and ideas that will foster UNICEF programmes in general and, positively contribute to the socio-economic growth of communities thus, directly benefiting women and children.
How can you make a difference?
Coordinate and provide support on overall innovation strategy/action plan for UNICEF Cote d’Ivoire, including formulation, design, planning and implementation
Coordinate and support development and testing of innovation products and processes to strengthen and improve efficiency and effectiveness of UNICEF’s programming, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and communication. More specifically, provide technical support for continued improvements to U-Report, and deployment of RapidSMS/RapidPro – UNICEF’s latest mobile phone-based system for real-time data collection, including negotiations with mobile network companies and other service providers.
Proactively scout for new innovative ideas and opportunities that promote and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of UNICEF Cote d’Ivoire programme objectives. Innovative projects and ideas also include concrete action regarding climate change and environmental issues. This will allow the Sustainable Development Agenda to thrive in a unique way than business as usual.
Identify opportunities for resource mobilization and new partnerships for innovations in close collaboration with the Global Office of Innovation and Regional Office.
Develop partnerships and network with local innovators, youth organizations, NGOs, cultural and religious organizations, the private sector, local media and academia to build and provide a space to nurture and test new and innovative ideas, develop the next generation of thought leaders and build local capacity.
Train UNICEF staff, partner staff, government counterparts and other end users in the country in the use of innovation products and processes.
Document tested innovation projects and processes and ensure effective sharing and generation of knowledge around innovations in the Country Office as well as with UNICEF global innovation network.
Together with the Chief of Operations, represent the Country Office in the UNICEF global innovation network for information sharing and leverage experiences of innovation colleagues in other Country Offices as well as at the global level.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Education
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in International Development, Business Administration, or another related field
Work Experience
At least five years of experience in supporting and coordinating project activities across a large organization and with other international partner organizations
Progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, education, and technology fields, some of which should be in an international setting
A strong understanding of UN agencies’ programmes, policy, and principles, including knowledge of communication, technology, user-centered design, youth participation and partnership goals, as well as sound interpretation and judgment to present these programmes and policies in a way that enhances UNICEF’s image
Knowledge of current trends in youth participation and new media, as well as a good understanding of development issues, world affairs and current events
Proven ability to manage relationships with partners, including youth coalitions, universities, intellectual leaders, UN organizations, NGOs and the private sector
Language Proficiency
A working knowledge of French and English; Competence in at least French or English is preferred
