Categories
  • This program acknowledges the transformative potential of small and innovative projects in advancing sustainable development and promoting democratic values, with a specific focus on one of the following categories.
    • Category 1: Programs Promoting Good Governance and the Rule of Law, especially anti- corruption
      • They encourage programs promoting good governance and rule of law, such as transparency, right to information, and anti-corruption. Priority will be given for activities formulated to combat corruption across various sectors.
      • Illustrative activities may include, promoting good governance, transparency, accountability and Right to Information, civic engagement, rule of law, increase public awareness, etc.
    • Category 2: Programs Promoting Economic Empowerment
      • They encourage programs promoting economic empowerment and entrepreneurship, especially for women and minorities, as a component of a healthy economy and a means to integrate into the regional economy.
      • Illustrative activities may include, Women’s economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, socio-economic advancement, inclusion, healthy economy, economic justice, skill development, etc.
    • Category 3: Programs Promoting the Professional Capacity and Accuracy of Sri Lanka’s Media Sector
      • They encourage projects that enhance professionalism within the media sector and promote verified, responsible, fact-based and unbiased media coverage.
      • Illustrative activities might include, Training in basic journalism, Peace Journalism Training, Targeted training, Production projects, Community Radio, Media Business Strengthening, Media Regulations/legislation, Media legal cadre, Association building, women and media, media ethics, etc.
    • Category 4: Programs Promoting Peace, Democracy, and Human Rights
      • They encourage programs that promote peace, democracy, reconciliation, and human rights, fostering social integration within all communities in Sri Lanka. Additionally, they welcome initiatives that strengthen democratic values, enhance awareness and protection of religious freedom, gender equality and disability rights, and human rights principles.
      • Illustrative activities may include Reconciliation, Social Integration, Democratic Values, Religious freedom, Gender justice and equality, Disability rights, Human Rights, Pluralistic values, etc.
Funding Information
  • US$ 5,000 – US$ 15,000
Time Limit
  • They welcome short term projects with a total timeline of three to four months and end by August 30, 2024.
  • They anticipate to carry out two or three rounds of calls for proposals throughout the calendar year.
    • The deadline for the second round of call for applications is March 30, 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
  • This grant is open to participation from non-profit organizations, non-governmental entities and individuals based in or working with communities living across Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee Districts in Sri Lanka.
  • Government entities and for-profit companies are not eligible to apply for grants.
