Program Coordinator- SAY HEY Sports and Health Education Program

The University of Arkansas seeks a program coordinator for the U.S. government sponsored SAY HEY Program (Sport for African Youth Health Education and Youth development) to assist with program recruitment and logistics.

Program Description:

The program will be conducted in five phases. Phase I is recruitment of program participants in Senegal. Two professors from the University of Arkansas will travel to Senegal in mid-October to identify 18 Senegalese participants who will be invited to Arkansas to obtain training in the methods and application of the Sport Education Model, as well as instruction in teaching health education on topics of particular concern in Senegal. The program coordinator will recruit the participant candidates, organize the interviews, and manage the logistics for the visit of the two University of Arkansas staff.

During Phases II and III, the selected Senegalese participants will travel to the University of Arkansas and will take interdisciplinary college course on health, recreation, and counseling students who are interested in international development. The Senegalese participants will also design their own sports and health education program. This phase will occur in Spring 2019. The program coordinator will assist with the travel arrangements for the 18 selected participants.

Phase IV will occur in Senegal in the summer and fall of 2019. The Senegalese participants will return to Senegal and implement the program they learned in Phase III. They will recruit participants to their programs and, through sport, provide health education and character development.

Phase V is the evaluation phase where 15 University of Arkansas students and three University of Arkansas faculty members will travel to Senegal, in December 2019, to evaluate the program. The program coordinator will assist with the travel and logistical arrangements for the visiting students and faculty from the University of Arkansas.
