Do you want to be part of an organisation that fights for children every single day? We are looking for a committed and experienced senior humanitarian nutrition specialist to join us as the Humanitarian Nutrition Lead/ Senior Humanitarian Nutrition Adviser Maternity Cover, based in Farringdon, London.

In our Humanitarian Department, our fight for children means integrate emergency and development through our country programmes. We constantly look at increasing our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises.

As the Humanitarian Nutrition Lead you will be a senior member of a dynamic and multisectoral Humanitarian Public Health Team (HPHT), the HPHT Management Team, and the Save the Children Emergency Nutrition Working Group (ENWG), with talented and committed colleagues based all around the world. You will work closely with our development nutrition colleagues and other technical and non-technical staff within SCUK, SCI and across the Save the Children Association.

You will:

  1. Lead and effectively manage of a diverse team of humanitarian nutrition specialists;
  2. Lead and represent humanitarian nutrition within different task groups and initiatives within the Save the Children Movement;
  3. Lead the shaping and implementing the Save the Children’s humanitarian nutrition strategies and policies;
  4. Lead on organisational initiatives such as the Global Malnutrition Initiative, and co-chair relevant Movement wide nutrition working groups as required.
  5. Play a leadership role within the relevant external bodies and organisations in the sector, including the Global Nutrition Cluster, the Global Technical Assistance Mechanism and the No Wasted Lives Consortium.
  6. Provide technical and program support to SCI Country Offices for the delivery of quality humanitarian nutrition programs;
  7. Deploy to set up new emergency nutrition programmes and/or provide technical backstopping as required.

To be successful you will have significant and progressive experience at the country level as well as regional or head office level in the implementation and management of humanitarian nutrition programmes. You should also be nutrition professional with post graduate qualifications in nutrition or a relevant subject. In addition you will have:

  • Ability to manage organisational change and remain a supportive team leader throughout.
  • Significant experience and a track record of success in delivering high quality humanitarian nutrition programmes.
  • Significant experience of team management and leadership in a technical sector.
  • Highly developed writing skills – both at a programmatic level (assessment reports, proposals) and a policy level (policy papers, guidance notes).
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) at a level appropriate for high-level external representation (lobbying, presentations) and ability to tailor communications to different audiences.
  • Understanding and practical experience of the cluster approach at country and global level.
  • Ability to analyse diverse information and develop recommendations for an appropriate response.
  • Ability to travel, occasionally to remote and insecure locations for up to 30% of work time.
