Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children every single day? Then join us as Vaccine and Epidemics Advisor, supporting field humanitarian programmes, capacity building and policy/guidance within the thematic areas of vaccination and epidemic alert.

In our Humanitarian department, we fight for children every single day. We integrate emergency and development work, through our country programmes. We increase our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. We go the extra mile – and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As Vaccine and Epidemics Advisor, you will be support our organisation to scale up its epidemic preparedness and response capacity to inform, detect, investigate and confirm outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases and other epidemic prone diseases and help to ensure that there is capacity to deliver epidemic disease control strategies during humanitarian crises. In addition, you will provide more generalist humanitarian health support as part of surge capacity for response to now sudden emergencies globally. You will also:

  • Carry out short field assignments to countries in order to support preparedness for and response to epidemics
  • Support country programmes to develop emergency preparedness plans in line with SCI, focussing on epidemic alert and response and vaccination
  • In concert with external stakeholders (e.g. WHO including GOARN, MSF, UNICEF), drive forward our organisational strategy to expand our work on epidemic alert and response in emergencies
  • Support the design of the proposed Emergency Health Unit self-contained in-patient capacity for rapid initiation of health programmes in emergencies
  • Contribute to the design and rollout of SC humanitarian health capacity building initiatives for our and partners’ staff, including face to face and other modalities of learning, both at head office and on the field.

To be successful you will have strong experience in the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of intervention to respond to epidemics in emergencies, including diarrhoeal diseases outbreaks. Fluency in English and the ability to travel at short notice up to 50% of the time is also essential. In addition you will have:

  • Clinical training either as a medical doctor, clinical officer or nurse
  • Experience in setting up disease surveillance systems
  • Solid experience in the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of vaccination interventions in emergencies, including campaigns and routine vaccination
  • Progressive and solid experience on the field in the implementation and management of humanitarian health programmes, with a focus on vaccination or epidemic alert and response.

Fluency in French or Arabic is desirable.
