HI recruits 01 Inclusive Livelihood Technical Coordinator

Place: UGANDA (Kampala)

Length: 18 months

Starting date: August 2019

Closing date for applications: 09/06/2019

Outraged by the injustice faced by people with disabilities and vulnerable populations, we aspire to a world of solidarity and inclusion, enriched by our differences, where everyone can live in dignity.

Handicap International is changing his name and becomes « Humanity & Inclusion ». HI, Humanity & Inclusion is an independent and impartial aid and development organisation with no religious or political affiliations operating in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. We work alongside people with disabilities and vulnerable people to help meet their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.

HI has offices in 63 countries; for further information about the association: www.hi.org.

JOB CONTEXT:

Between 2009 and 2013, HI was present in Uganda implementing Mine Risk Education activities. These activities concluded in 2013 when Uganda was declared free of mines in 2012.

In October 2017, HI launched its new programme directed at the refugee response in Arua District, West Nile region, where the organization provided psychosocial support services, community-based rehabilitation, protection of persons with specific needs, and disability inclusion. HI has now expanded its rehabilitation project funding from September 2018, in consortia to cover all three settlements in Arua District. In early 2019, HI launched 3 projects: an Inclusive Education project, a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support project and a Sexual Reproductive Health project. HI is also launching an innovative project under DFID funding under the Global Disability Innovation Fund: 3D Printing through Emergency Tele Rehab Access which will bring appropriate, life changing orthopaedic devices to people in need in Arua District.

In August 2019, HI will launch an Inclusive Livelihoods project under a consortium led by BRAC Uganda and in partnership with NUWODU, the umbrella organization for women with disabilities. The project is entitled Partnerships for Disability-Inclusive Ultra-Poor Graduation. BRAC created and is the leading practitioner of the graduation approach. As there is mounting evidence that graduation also serves as an effective livelihood approach for ultra-poor people with disabilities (PWD), BRAC in partnership with HI and NUWODU will launch a disability-inclusive ultra-poor graduation programming in Uganda.

Through building the capacity of existing poverty reduction and social protection actors and developing evidence and best practice, the Inclusive Livelihoods Technical Coordinator will help catalyse ultra-poor graduation programming in Uganda.
