Context of the position

The French Red Cross (FRC) is operational in Northern Iraq since 2013, especially in Dohuk, Ninewa and Erbil governorates. Focused first on the influx of Syrian refugees, then on the IDP crisis and the challenging return of population in newly liberated areas, the FRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including WASH, Livelihoods, Shelter and Relief. The Iraq programme presently employs about 25 national staff and 8 international staff.
The French Red Cross works in partnership with the local branches of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
In 2019, FRC continues its early recovery assistance for Syrian refugees, Iraqi IDPs, returnees and most vulnerable host communities.

The FRC is implementing a 3-years project funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), whose objective is to improve access to basic education and the well-being of children from the Refugee, IDPs and Host communities in Dohuk governorate.

Hierarchical link

  • The psychosocial delegate reports to the project manager

Functional links

Internal:

  • In HQ: Psychosocial desk officer
  •  Within Iraqi Delegation:
  1. Access to Education Project team
  2.  Other project team members
  3. Logistic and administration/finance departments.

External:

  • Collaborates with the IRCS,other Red-Cross/Red Crescent national societies involved in the region and the field of intervention,local authorities, and neighbourhood representatives.

Main responsibilities:

A- Work with project staff and partners to develop and review psychosocial activities

B- Ensure staff capacity-building, review, re-adapt and facilitate training modules for teachers and other stakeholders as necessary

C- Review and update of the referral pathways

D- Ensure adequate communication and reporting and compile all documents to facilitate project follow up

Expériences / Formation du candidat Candidate Profile

  • Strong Psychosocial background (psychologist, counselling, therapists, etc.)
  •  Program coordination and management
  •  Training of trainer skills

Linked to the function of project manager

  • Experience in implementing program related to psychosocial and educational access
  • Experience in initial diagnosis, situation and needs analysis
  • Experience / knowledge on children’s rights, protection and participation
  • Strong project and team management skills
  • Sound experience in partnership and capacity building
  • Good communication, analytical and drafting skills

Linked to the specific environment of the mission:

  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills.
  • Good knowledge or experience of the Red Cross Movement preferred.
  • Rigor, flexibility and adaptation capacities.

Languages: English compulsory, Kurdish or Arabic desirable, French an asset

It is intended for all: volunteers, employees, members or people wishing to get more information on the biggest humanitarian movement in the world.

Stay Safe is intended for every staff in a position to carry out international missions on behalf of the Federation or a National Society of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. The course aims at developing a common culture of security management within the Movement in order to enable a better understanding of the main threats and risks for humanitarian actors in the field, and offers solutions to restrain their impact.
