The EU Aid Volunteers initiative provides an opportunity to European citizens and long-term residents of the EU, from a wide range of backgrounds and with a diversity of skills and professional experience, to get involved in humanitarian aid projects, support the provision of needs based humanitarian aid in third countries and engage in volunteering opportunities through deployment.

Concern are looking for talented people with a relevant technical skill set who are committed to long-term service in the humanitarian sector who can demonstrate an outstanding ability to adapt to difficult circumstances, remain positive, motivated and productive.

Successful EU Aid Volunteers will benefit from:

  • Experience of volunteering in a large NGO through an apprenticeship based in Concern’s Head Office in Dublin
  • Hands-on learning in an 11 month field placement in the Concern Malawi country programme
  • Opportunity for continuous self-development with the help of a mentor, line-manager and on-line tools

Description

This position will support Concern Malawi’s Systems department in the implementation of Human Resources, Logistics and Transport, systems and procedures. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of systems support to Concern Malawi, in particular focusing on implementation of the existing policies and strengthening staff capacity.

Concern Worldwide has been working in Malawi since 2002, supporting the poorest and most marginalized to build resilient livelihoods and to lead healthy and productive lives. Since then Concern has been implementing programs on resilient livelihoods; gender equality; gender based violence and education; health and nutrition including community management of acute malnutrition. Concern is also implementing an emergency response to the drought as a result of the El Nino weather phenomenon which caused devastating crop failure in much of the country, leaving an estimated 5 – 8.4 million people in need of assistance, as well as the recent Cyclone Idai. Concern is providing emergency assistance through cash transfer response as well as early recovery support for livelihoods and strengthening resilience to the impact of shocks.

Volunteer Allowance:

In line with EU Aid Volunteer subsistence allowances:

  • Whilst in Dublin €667.79 per month
  • Whilst In Malawi €345.35 per month

Accommodation:

Accommodation in Dublin whilst on apprenticeship and when deployed in Malawi will be provided by Concern.

At the end of volunteer placement an allowance of €100 per completed month of deployment will be provided as a resettlement allowance.
