Opportunités de carrière  : School Feeding Programme, Consultant (Level II), Nairobi (132084)
WFP seeks candidates of the highest integrity and professionalism who share our humanitarian principles.
Selection of staff is made on a competitive basis, and we are committed to promoting diversity and gender balance.
Organizational Background : The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
The World Food Programme Somalia activities include relief assistance, safety-net support including school feeding, nutrition programmes and livelihood support through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers and capacity strengthening.
The School Feeding Programme : School meals can play a significant role in promoting food security, nutrition and education goals. As the largest humanitarian provider of school feeding worldwide, WFP, along with governments and partners, supports education, reduces malnutrition, and promotes development, especially during times of crises and emergencies. At the same time WFP is working to make school feeding ‘nutrition-sensitive’ — that is, ensuring that menus are designed with nutrition in mind, and provide not just calories but also the nutrients needed by growing bodies and brains.
Since 2003, WFP has provided hot meals to primary school children in Somalia through the School Feeding Programme (SFP). In 2017, a review of WFP’s SFP in Somalia found that school meals have a measurable impact on educational outcomes, with the enrolment, attendance, retention, and completion rates in participating schools higher than in non-SMP schools. Children attending school receive nutritious meals promoting their attendance, retention rate as well as contributing to their better health and nutrition. The provision of school meals also allows families, particularly those from more destitute backgrounds, to focus on providing more resources for the rest of the household. Purpose of Assignment : The purpose of this consultancy is to support the development of a national school feeding policy for the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
