Scope of Work

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, PME, and in close collaboration with the Deputy Representative,  incumbent is responsible for:

Developing the resource mobilisation and management strategy for the office, and supporting programme sections to develop fundraising proposals; and establish a funding gap analysis mechanism to track and inform fundraising efforts.

Updating and maintaining information on all Unicef KCO donors. Develop and maintain up-to-date donor profiles (keep records of agreements and funding requirements) and undertake donor funding trends analysis.

Incumbent is also responsible for:

  • Based on information gathered from programme sectors and field offices, consolidate donor reports for UNICEF Kenya and review donor reports for clarity and technical accuracy prior to submission.
  • Monitoring schedule of donor reports, based on information in Insight and internal tracking mechanisms;
  • Monitoring donor and county government engagements;
  • Ensuring the timely preparation and dissemination of other mandatory and special reports, as well as briefing documents;
  • Maintaining a list of pending funding proposals in the pipeline, and scoring them in consultation with Section Chiefs for probability of funding.

The overall framework and direction will be provided by the supervisor.  But the incumbent is expected to perform independently and take initiative to inform or consult with the supervisor on problem areas and major constraints. 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In consultation with the Representative, undertakes the following:

  1. Timely and accurate reporting and monitoring of donor reports.  This includes gathering of information, consolidation, editing and production of interim and final reports as per set deadlines as well as the production of Consolidated Donor Report(s).

  1. Support fundraising and other missions through the compilation and preparation of briefing and other programme documents for advocacy and information sharing purposes.

  1. In collaboration with Section Heads to compile, produce and disseminate mandatory UNICEF reports, including the Annual Report.

  1. Manage the CO resource mobilisation strategy and development of fundraising proposals in line with the overall fundraising strategy.  This includes compilation of information, editing and layout when necessary.

  1. In collaboration with Advocacy and partnership ensure the availability of human stories and photographs to enhance donor reporting and other reporting.

  1. Engage with donors and county governments for resource mobilisation and resource leveraging in support of programmes for children and adolescents.

  1. Under the guidance of the Chief of PME, provide assistance in drafting KCO annual Report as well as regular update reporting to ESARO and HQ.

  1. Maintain regular contact with programme sections in order to ensure an updated and comprehensive knowledge base on UNICEF programmes for use in developing materials for resource mobilisation and donor reporting. Maintain a list of pending proposals in the pipeline scored based on probability of funding and present this at monthly CMT meetings. Work closely with the Budget Officer to inform the office decisions about funding availability and projections.

  1. Develop and maintain records of reports, proposals and other material developed for reporting and fundraising to support ‘institutional memory’ within the office’s Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform

 

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
EDUCATION: University degree in Social Sciences, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations; or equivalent professional work experience in resource mobilisation, coordination, communication, etc.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Two years progressively responsible professional work experience in development agency, resource mobilisation or communication field handling development issues.
LANGUAGES: Fluency in English required and another UN language desirable.  Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
SKILLS: Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form; specific skills in writing reports, proposals. Proven ability to effectively manage relationship with programme colleagues and donors, government officials and other UNICEF partners. Knowledge of computer systems, internet navigation and various office applications, specifically interactive digital media.  Ability to handle excel, PROMS. Proven ability to work as part of a team
