The current UNICEF-Government of Zimbabwe Country Programme of Cooperation (2016-2020) aims to support Zimbabwe to sustain and build upon the gains achieved for children during the 2012-2015 Country Programme of Cooperation. The programme focuses on improving the quality of social services, increasing access to services, and helping to build national and sub-national capacities to provide low-cost, high-impact interventions for all children, especially the most vulnerable.

How can you make a difference?A challenging and exciting job opportunity of Communication Officer (Emergencies) at NO-2 level has arisen within UNICEF Zimbabwe’s Communication Section. The Communication Officer assists in the planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating an advocacy & communication strategy to get children’s and womens issues into the public domain, strengthen political will in support of UNICEF’s mission and objectives in the country, and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand. This position will particularly focus on emergency responses in Zimbabwe.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
Communication materialsEnsure that production of communication products and materials are timely executed and followed up to support country emergency related communication activities, regional and global campaigns and priorities, donor visibility and to support resource mobilization as set out in the work plan and demand from sections.
Support to Risk Communications and Community Engagement (RCCE) campaigns and activities:
Particularly during the COVID-19 emergency response support is given to the RCCE pillar and the associated activities and materials produced by UNICEF
Monitoring & EvaluationRegular monitoring and evaluation activities are undertaken according to the work plan to ensure maximum impact and continuous improvement of communication efforts.
Ensure results and reports are prepared and shared on a timely basis.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Education:University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Communication for Development

Work ExperienceTwo years practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, interactive digital media, or communications for development
Field work experience in Zimbabwe or the regionBackground/familiarity with Emergency situations
Language ProficiencyFluency in English
Knowledge of one of the local language of the duty station is an asset
