Street Child recruits 01 Research & Projects Volunteer / NEPAL
Location: Kathmandu and rural Nepal Dates: Flexible Duration: 6-12 weeks Focus: Marginalised Communities & Disaster Resilience
THE ROLE Street Child is looking for individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking an international volunteering role in Nepal, supporting our local team during a particularly busy period over the next few months in our country office in Kathmandu, as well as in the field (when required).
In Nepal, we’re in the process of launching a three-year programme, targeting over 7000 girls across five districts in a community that have one of the lowest functional literacies in the world. Alongside this, we have also been asked by UNICEF to play an important part in the third phase of their post earthquake reconstruction project. This will include community engagement, teacher training, kit distribution and other elements. Our team will also continue to assess and develop further other ongoing programmes.
Working alongside the Street Child of Nepal team, your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
A fundraising commitment is also required of successful applicants, for which support will be provided by Street Child UK. For those who reach their targets, there is the opportunity to have the costs of your flights covered. Participants will also be invited to a training day in February 2019, with a senior member of our Programmes Team & the Head of Fundraising at Street Child’s Head Office in London.
QUALIFICATIONS
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about the development sector through an immersive experience, and to make a lasting contribution to the organisation and its aim to empower children through education in Africa and Asia.
TERMS Successful applicants must be prepared to live and work in very basic conditions. Once in country there is a fixed daily cost covering accommodation and any work related travel. A more detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for an interview.
A fundraising commitment for the charity is required. Successful applicants will be assigned a fundraising mentor who is on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have as well as providing ideas, advice and support to help you reach your target.
Whilst this is initially a voluntary role, for applicants with relevant experience who have the ability to add strategic value, there is potential to attain a more permanent position with the organisation.
APPLICATION PROCESS Please fill out this short form here and send your Cover Letter and CV to intvol@street-child.co.uk outlining your experience, interest in the placement and availability. |
