Location: Kathmandu and rural Nepal

Dates: Flexible

Duration: 6-12 weeks

THE ROLE

Street Child is looking for individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking an international volunteering role in Nepal, supporting our local team during a particularly busy period over the next few months in our country office in Kathmandu, as well as in the field (when required).

In Nepal, we’re in the process of launching a three-year programme, targeting over 7000 girls across five districts in a community that have one of the lowest functional literacies in the world. Alongside this, we have also been asked by UNICEF to play an important part in the third phase of their post earthquake reconstruction project. This will include community engagement, teacher training, kit distribution and other elements. Our team will also continue to assess and develop further other ongoing programmes.

Working alongside the Street Child of Nepal team, your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Helping coordinate primary and secondary research using bespoke methodologies and methods, including appropriate tools for research with children, their communities and other relevant stakeholders
  • Conducting literature reviews on assigned issues, proposing frameworks for how these issues can be understood within Street Child
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data (qualitative and quantitative) from the research
  • Creating/ reviewing research papers with recommendations for Street Child and relevant stakeholders; these papers will form the basis for future research and initiatives
  • Supporting the design and delivery of projects; including travel to the field sites where necessary
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of projects to ensure they are on target to reach the outlined timeframes and intended impact
  • Liaising and working in collaboration with local partners and stakeholders
  • Identifying potential local and international funders and writing in depth funding proposals to these organisations as required

A fundraising commitment is required of successful applicants. Participants will also be invited to a training day with a senior member of our Programmes Team & the Head of Fundraising at Street Child’s Head Office in London.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional and diligent in presentation and conduct

  • Remaining flexible and adaptable is crucial as things won’t go to plan
  • Thoughtful, resourceful, reflective, and eager to learn

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about the development sector through an immersive experience, and to make a lasting contribution to the organisation and its aim to empower children through education in Africa and Asia.
