Do you want to play a key role in an organisation that is leading for change in humanitarian aid? Then join us as Adviser – Risk Analysis, Crisis Anticipation. You will provide advice and technical guidance for anticipation and early action across the Start Network, as one aspect of the development and piloting of new prototype products and approaches for humanitarian action.

As Adviser – Risk Analysis, you will work within the Crisis Anticipation team and interact with different teams within the Start Network, providing helping to ensure consistency of approach for anticipation and early action.  You will also develop the Start Network’s capability to analyse emerging risks, harnessing context-appropriate methodologies. In addition you will:

  • Be responsible for provision of high-quality technical advice for decision-makers in the Start Fund alert cycle
  • Contribute to the execution of the development of a network-wide plan for anticipation and early action in support of the wider strategy for new forms of financing and overall network development
  • Support quality assurance of analytical methods in anticipation and early action initiatives, including field deployment to support anticipation activities
  • Work with the Start Communications and Digital Team to ensure visibility, awareness, and learning, on the role and use of forecast-based information for anticipatory responses.
  • Support the development and implementation of a strategy for nationally and regionally-led network growth with a focus on growth of FOREWARN as part of the wider Start Network.

To be successful you will have experience in partnership development in national and/or international contexts. You should also have experience in preparing for, responding to and delivering programmes in developing countries and/or humanitarian emergencies, particularly in an information management role. Proven analytical and problem solving skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise work across teams, managing time and resources effectively. In addition you will have:

  • Substantive experience of communication techniques, including communicating the uncertain nature of forecasting information effectively
  • Experience of building systems for humanitarian risk analysis
  • Proven experience in preparing for, responding to and delivering programmes in humanitarian emergencies
  • Experience in partnership development and/or networks, with a track record of brokering and/or cultivating successful relationships
  • Strong presentation and writing skills, including project documentation and public communication.
