We are looking for an experienced lawyer with proven legal skills as well as a strong commercial and international mindset for a role as Legal Counsel in one of the world’s largest logistics companies.

This position requires to be a proactive business partner for local management and relevant stakeholders while flagging risks with a commercial and pragmatic approach towards problem-solving. This position provides legal support for all Maersk business functions in Egypt, including commercial, finance, tax and government affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

Advice and support on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and procurement contracts and other legal documents.

Monitoring local legislation and informing businesses about its implications.

Managing all Egypt corporate issues internally and externally; drafting and examining the documentation prepared for board meetings, and general assembly meetings.

Supporting Maersk strategic growth projects and investments in Egypt.

Advising on various engagements with governmental authorities in Egypt.

Responsible for engaging and managing of external legal counsels.

Proactively identify and address legal issues in a pragmatic and risk-based fashion.

Provide training to (non-legal) colleagues on relevant topics such as commercial contracting.

Supporting claims team for handling any major litigation/ dispute in Egypt.

Working effectively with other departments and functions such as Finance, Tax, Compliance, etc.

Who we are looking for

The candidate must be Egyptian Law qualified.  

Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience in private practice and/or as in-house counsel, with experience in transportation and logistics will be considered as a strong advantage.  

Solid experience with general corporate, regulatory and commercial legal issues.

Experience with drafting and negotiating contracts; drive to understand the commercial context.

Able to hold a position, yet partnering with the business to find solutions to complex issues.

Commercial mind-set, drive to deliver high quality results, high level of integrity.

Effective communicator (able to explain complex legal issues to non-legal people), empathy, personal tact.

Well organised, punctual.

Speaks and writes clearly in Arabic and English.
