Job Profile
The Senegal Lecture Pour Tous Program is a USAID-funded program implemented by Chemonics International between October 26, 2016 and July 10, 2021. The program will support the Ministry of Education (MOE) in developing a sustainable and scalable national reading program, and will implement interventions to improve early grade reading instruction in public primary schools and daaras, improve delivery systems for early grade reading instruction improved, and improve parent and community engagement in early grade reading.
The objective of this role is to provide real-time translation when needed for our Outcome 2 Team working on Delivery systems for Early Grade Reading Instruction Improved of the All Children Reading (ACR) Project in Senegal, from English to French and French to English, ensuring timely and effective delivery of these activities.
The interpreter will provide interpretation work from English to French and French to English in real time in Senegal when needed. Activities covered may be meetings with MEN officials, conferences, workshops, field visits, etc.
Individual instructions will be given for each task.
The Translators will be supervised by the Senior Systems Strengthening Specialist with line management by the Home Office Technical Project Manager.
Job Description
The interpreter will carry out specific tasks within the following areas:
Listen to, understand and memorize content in the original source language (English or French) and reproduce statements, questions and speeches in the target language (English or French).
Assimilate speaker’s voice quickly, including technical terminology and acronyms;
Translate paperwork in advance: minutes of meeting, agenda, etc.
Candidate Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
* University degree in a relevant field;
* At least 5 years’s experience in English to French or French to English translation and interpretation;
* Strong organizational abilities including ability to self-manage and function with limited oversight;
– Working experience in Senegal and excellent knowledge of local context;
* Working knowledge of education and education research terminology preferred
* French proficiency required;
* English proficiency required
