 Organizational Setting
 The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist Governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. In the absence of peace, good governance and strong institutions, and with severe food insecurity, and a collapsing economy, people in South Sudan
Are constantly exposed to recurrent shocks and stresses. Addressing these challenges would require interventions along the continuing of peace building, humanitarian support and development action — along the line of what is required in the context of the NWOW. In South Sudan, the U.N is taking a leadership role in advancing an agenda to build resilience to, directly address vulnerabilities at household, community and institutional levels.
With the funding from technical cooperation programme project (TCP) for the development of pesticides legal framework for south Sudan, FAO and Ministry of Agriculture and food security are jointly implementing the project. The project aims to assist the government to develop policies, Programmes and projects to achieve food security and reduce hunger and to use their environmental and natural resources in sustainable manner.
The project manager is responsible for the management and coordination of the pesticides TCP project by ensuring consistency with the objectives set out in financial convention with the donor for the project implementation and rules and procedures of FAO.
Reporting Lines
 The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the deputy FAO Representative. The project manager will on a day to day basis report technically to the programme officer and consult with the relevant technical Units at FAO headquarter, RAF and SFE, and the Lead technical officer and close collaboration with the line south Sudan line government ministries.
Technical Focus
Demonstrates awareness of overall IT governance structure to support the process. Demonstrates responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. Uses judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis. Uses a people-centered approach in developing, monitoring and evaluation of projects and activities.
Tasks and responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of  the programme officer, and the overall supervision of  the FAO Representative a.i the project Manager will specifically:
Provide the overall guidance to the project and expert technical advice on timely and high quality implementation and results according to the Pesticides TCP project document.
Prepare detailed project annual work plans in line with the budget and in collaboration with stakeholders, and make necessary arrangements for their successful implementation of the project.
Monitor the project implementation and prepare quarterly reports
Identify plant protection problems in FAO projects and provide technical support for the promotion of safe and sustainable plant protection activities.
Provide technical support and training on the implementation of the relevant international agreement and convention linked to pest and pesticides management including international plant protection convention (lPPC) the international code of conduct on pesticides management; Rotterdam convention.
Assist in establishing the community base monitoring and early warning system for crop pests and diseases.
Contribute to crop related technical support in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of emergency and resilience programme
Provide technical contribution and support in the development and follow up of crop related emergency and development projects and programmes
Contribute to preparing and updating technical recommendation for the implementation of agriculture project.
Provide training on agronomic practice base on good agricultural practice (GAP), conservation/climate smart agriculture, and integrated pest management (IPM) and post-harvest management (PHM).
Provide support to Logistic Unite for the issues related to Tax exemption, Seed import permit.
Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
 Minimum Requirements
 Bachelor degree in Plant Protection, Plant pathology or related field.
National of South Sudan
At least 10 years previous work experience in more than one area in South Sudan.
