DutiesThis position is staffed under the Information Management Office of the Management Section.  The Information Management Officer provides day-to-day supervision.  Duties are divided between serving as a receptionist and switchboard operator.  This is one of the two positions in the occupational series.
Operates the Embassy switchboard.  Handles incoming and calls and places outgoing local and long distance calls.  Determines if long distance calls are official or unofficial and maintain a log of calls placed.
— Serves as receptionist and provides information in person or by telephone in response to a wide variety of inquiries regarding proper office/agency locations, employment applications, phone numbers etc.  Tactfully questions visitors in order to determine the exact nature of their inquiries, and contacts the appropriate person or office to obtain response or directs the visitor to the concerned office.
— Makes appointments for visitors upon confirmations with appropriate office.
— Receives vehicle request and notifies the Motor Pool dispatcher.
— Does straightforward copy typing when required.
— Distributes correspondence delivered to the Embassy and assists in the control and dispatch of Diplomatic notes, invitations, etc. to other Embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:EXPERIENCE: Two years of clerical experience of which at least one must have been with an International Organization or Corporate.  Must have knowledge of how to place local and international telephone calls via local telecommunications
Education Requirements:Completion of Secondary school is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:  Mandatory: Level III (Good working knowledge). Speaking/reading/writing  English; . Level IV (Fluent ) Speaking/reading/writing French; Level III spoken Hausa and Zarma.  This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES Optional: Must maintain a reception SOP and keep up-to-date Embassy telephone listing.  Must organize the workweek schedule for mailroom coverage, and assistance with telephone.  Must design and implement post procedures for dealing with suspicious calls.  Knowledge of Word processing recommended.  Knowledge of records maintenance recommended. This may be tested.

Benefits:Agency Benefits:Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Niamey, Niger may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
