City of Hobart seeking Applications for Urban Sustainability Grants (Australia)

The City of Hobart is seeking applications for its Urban Sustainability Grants program to provide opportunities for the community to develop solutions to climate change and sustainability issues.

The Urban Sustainability Grant supports projects that develop solutions to climate change and sustainability issues, such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, air and water quality, and local food and biodiversity projects.

Urban Sustainability Grants bring together two separate previous programs – the Dr. Edward Hall Environment Grant and the Waste Reduction Grant programs to offer an annual round of up to $55 000 for projects.

Outcomes

Projects should have one or more of the following outcomes:

increase resource recovery
reduce the volume and type of waste otherwise directed to landfill
promote or undertake initiatives to increase energy efficiency
actively address or promote air and water quality improvements
support the development of sustainable community food gardens and local biodiversity projects
develops data or understanding that directly informs any of the above.
Funding Information

Funding of up to $15 000 is available to schools, community groups, and businesses for projects that broadly support urban sustainability in the City.
Eligibility Criteria

Incorporated not-for-profit organisations and registered charities:
Incorporated not-for-profit (NFP) organisations, including registered charities, are eligible to apply for and auspice applications for grants.
Unincorporated groups or organisations:
Unincorporated organisations or groups may apply for grants if auspiced.
Applicants who are auspiced must provide full details and confirmation from their auspicing organisation with their application.
Individuals:
Applications for projects to be delivered by an individual must apply under the auspice of a registered not-for-profit organisation.
Commercial and for-profit organisations:
Companies and organisations that operate as for-profit entities may apply for a matched grant. That is, for every dollar requested from the City of Hobart, the applicant must match an equal, or greater, the dollar amount to the project.
To be eligible for funding as a commercial or for-profit organization must:
have an appropriate business registration, including that of a sole trader
be a small business as defined by the ABS that is employing fewer than 20 FTE (at the time of the application).
have a physical presence in the City of Hobart local government area.
