Senegal – Project Manager (Maternity Cover)

The project manager will ensure the successful planning, management and delivery of projects. He/she will contribute to build up the portfolio in line with British Council priorities and value to UK by developing quality proposals and attracting and promptly responding to new business opportunities.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
The post-holder will be accountable to:
• The Head of Programmes for all activity associated with the Education and Society, Arts and English programmes
• The post-holder will be responsible for managing and delivering programme work in agreed areas across the Education and Society, Arts and English.

Main duties are as follows:

Project Management (60%)
• To ensure proper planning (including risk assessment and mitigation), including communication, EDI plans and Scorecard for every project in line with corporate standards.
• Responsible for the delivery of high-quality projects , ensuring that corporate standards are met, using assigned resources efficiently and cost-effectively to deliver required impact
• Ensuring that project progress is effectively monitored through the regular collection and analysis of key indicators (through the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning plan and corporate Scorecard).
• Ensure that project processes and results are properly documented, producing lessons learnt and communication deliverables such as success stories that will be used to demonstrate impact of the work, for fundraising purposes and to raise awareness of British Council Senegal in-country and within the Global Network
• Effective budget management (through SAP and Excel), ensuring that expenditure does not exceed agreed budgets and offers the British Council value for money. Monthly reporting to Head of Programmes, in advance of monthly finance (Financial Control and Compliance Framework) meetings.
• Ensure that internal and external reporting requirements are met, including monthly, quarterly and final technical and financial reports, MEL plans and Scorecard.

Business Development (40%)
• To develop a solid portfolio of concept notes and funding proposals across Education & Society and Arts (as defined by the Head of Programmes) to facilitate business development efforts;
• To plan and hold regular donor check-in / update visits with major institutional and corporate donors in line with country strategic priorities and attendance at key events
• To support the development of positive and productive relationships between the British Council and its partners and other stakeholders, ensuring that sponsors, donors and potential donors are informed about the projects they are funding or interested in funding.

Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

• Information Knowledge Management

Project work requires occasional (or sometimes regular) work outside conditioned hours, for example, in the evenings or at weekends. TOIL (Time Off In Lieu) should be agreed with the line manager in advance to maintain an adequate work-life balance. Post holders may be required to travel abroad (e.g. to the UK and across the region) on British Council business and should therefore hold valid travel documents.

Skills and Qualifications
High level of French and English language (IELTS 7 or above equivalent) skills
Track record in project management (planning, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and learning)
Track record in proposal development and winning new business
University degree in a relevant subject
