OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information (CI), the guidance of the Chief of the Executive Office and the direct supervision of the Associate Programme Specialists in the Executive Office, the Individual Specialist shall support the CI/EO team to:
(1) Organize the CI retreat foreseen in May 2020 by preparing the concept note and agenda; identifying and liaising with facilitators, trainers, and speakers; communicating with colleagues; and organizing logistics;
(2) Prepare substantive reports, briefings and speeches related to CI programmatic themes in the fields of freedom of expression, safety of journalists, access to information, media development, media and information literacy, innovation, digital transformation, and preservation of documentary heritage;
(3) Prepare for and report on CI-related items and discussions of the 209th session of the Executive Board;
(4) Enhance fundraising, including through the strengthening of the CI Sector’s resource mobilization strategy and its implementation, in consultation with relevant UNESCO services;
(5) Improve communication and knowledge management for the CI Sector;
(6) Perform any other tasks as assigned by Chief, CI/EO.
The Consultant shall submit a monthly progress report concerning work undertaken in performing the outlined duties.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in communications, public policy or relevant fields.
Experience
At least 3 years of experience in communications, event organization, and/or preparation of texts
Experience with UNESCO and/or the United Nations system and understanding of their functioning and procedures would be an asset.
Language skills
Excellent knowledge (written and oral) of English or French and good working knowledge of the other language;

Excellent analytical and drafting skills;
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to exchange information on complex issues;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a multicultural environment with external and internal partners;
Excellent organization and planning skills, including the ability to organize own work priorities and deadlines. Discretion and maturity of judgement are required;
Ability to work under pressure;
Solid computer skills including advanced knowledge of office software such as Word and Excel.
