OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information (ADG/CI) and the direct supervision of the Chief, Executive Office (CI/EO), the incumbent is responsible for providing professional and technical support, research and analysis for the programme management, as well as coordination of the Communication and Information (CI) Sector. Working as part of the global CI team and as member of the Executive Office, the incumbent will assist the Chief, CI/EO in performing the major activities listed below.
1.    To assist Chief, CI/EO in overall coordination activities of the Executive Office, the incumbent will:
•    collecte and analyze data, prepare and consolidate briefings in the thematic areas of media  and information literacy, media development, universal access to information and documentary heritage;
•    provide support to Chief CI/EO in facilitating joint action and good working relations between colleagues in the Field and Headquarters, UNESCO Centers, Institutes and networks, Central services, as well as partnerships with Member States, Intergovernmental Organizations, civil society, academia and the private sector;
•    manage and produce correspondence, memos, briefings, speeches, articles, web content, inputs to the UNESCO annual report, etc.
2.    To assist Chief, CI/EO in the management of the programme cycle, the incumbent will:
•    contribute to the preparation of the Medium-Term Strategy (C/4), the biennial Programmes and Budgets (C/5s) and corresponding work plans;
•    assist in the coordinating, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of CI’s regular budget and extra-budgetary activities;
•    gather and compile contributions for the preparation of statutory reports and documents for submission to governing bodies and diverse partners;
•    prepare, review and finalize documentation for sessions of the governing bodies (Executive Board and General Conference), including reports of the debates;
•    monitor and manage inputs to UN wide exercises and reports.
3.    To assist Chief, CI/EO in communication of the CI sector, the incumbent will:
•    contribute to plan, develop, implement and monitor external and internal communication activities about the work and achievements of the CI Sector;
•    support corporate communication through the production and dissemination of communication materials, including brochures, leaflets, etc.
4.    Assist Chief, CI/EO in partnerships and outreach, including resource mobilization, by analyzing and compiling background data for potential partnerships and fundraising opportunities, and carrying out backstopping in coordination with Field Offices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent degree) in the field of communication and information, political sciences, international relations or related areas.
Work Experience
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the field of communication and/or information, of which preferably 1 year acquired in an international environment.
Skills and competencies
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to edit and draft clearly and concisely.
• Strong analytical skills and capacity to ensure accuracy of documents and reports through research, reference sources and consultations, paying close attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and coordination skills.
• Excellent inter-personal skills, including the ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders and to work effectively and respectfully in a multicultural environment.
• Strong sense of ethics, integrity, diplomacy, tact and discretion.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, to manage heavy workload and to meet tight deadlines, with the ability to apply flexibility in adjusting work schedules and priorities.
• Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office).
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience
• Proven experience in writing original texts (contribution to reports, articles) in English or French, practice of editing.
• Experience in implementing and managing programmes/projects in the areas of communication and information.
• Development of SharePoint and websites.
Skills and competencies
• Knowledge of UNESCO’s programmes and approved priorities.
• Familiarity with the work and general functioning of UNESCO or international organizations in the UN System.
Languages
• Working knowledge of another official UNESCO language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
