ABOUT SOLIDARITÉS …

 

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is a French humanitarian organization which provides aid and assistance to victims of war or natural disaster. For over 38 years, our organization has worked towards meeting the three basic needs – water, food and shelter – of vulnerable and crisis-affected populations, and has been more specifically committed to fight against waterborne diseases, leading cause of death in the world. SI’s interventions are carried out based on its expertise in the field of access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential ones of food security and livelihoods. SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL is currently present in about 20 countries where SI staff – a total of 2,000 people comprising expatriates, local staff, HQ employees and some volunteers – implements programs with professionalism and commitment whilst being mindful of respecting other cultures. 

Within the Deputy Direction of Operations (DOAP) focusing on program quality, the Protection Officer draws up the Association’s Protection Strategy, ensures its proper implementation and promotes it externally.

He / she is in charge of reinforcing the technical and methodological skills of Solidarités International (SI), by its expertise in the field of Protection in humanitarian action, and to support the mainstreaming and integration of protection in different countries of intervention.

 

ABOUT THE JOB

 

Overall:

  • Guarantee the quality and relevance of approaches, methodologies and techniques proposed in Protection;
  • Responsible for providing technical support to country teams either remotely or during field visits;

 

Strategic Direction

  • Develop an internal framework on the operationalization of Protection in SI programming, consistent with the association’s objectives and mandate as well as with identified needs;
  • Support the development and implementation of specific « Protection » strategies in the different SI countries, in line with donor policies and trends;
  • Represent SI on the themes of Protection and related topics (human rights, child protection, etc.) at meetings and exchange platforms, including with donors;
  • Ensure the production, dissemination and training on Protection approaches at SI in link with the learning officer and the communications department;
  • Contribute to reinforce SI’s position on mainstreaming protection by building a network of expertise, by developing technical partnerships with other actors (NGOs, research centers, companies, etc.) and by validating reports / articles distributed externally related to Protection;

 

Quality of protection approaches

  • Conduct a comparative study between the different SI countries implementing one or more Protection approaches and identifies good practices, lessons learned and concrete recommendations;
  • Review the documents generated on protection in the different countries of intervention and design, develop and update good practices guidance, tools and techniques relating to Protection, internal to SI such as a toolkit on « Mainstreaming Protection »;
  • Provide technical and methodological support on Protection issues to the headquarters and field programmatic team via support and coaching missions for example;
  • Occasionally and at the request of geographic managers, proofread and validate certain chapters of concept notes, project proposals, logical frameworks and final reports and ensure that they are aligned with the SI Protection strategy, that necessary resources are planned / allocated for the proper implementation of this strategy at the country level;
  • Participate in the development, dissemination and compliance of an internal data management and protection policy. Develop a specific data management annex relating to the identification and referral of protection cases and ensure it is disseminated and applied by the field teams;

 

Training & Human Resources

  • Develop standard training modules on key protection topics (e.g. referral of protection cases by non-specialist teams);
  • Contribute to the inclusion of Protection in the modules of the preparation of field workers before departure (general and program) and facilitate these modules;
  • Advise countries / desks on appropriate HR organizations for the implementation of Protection Strategies;
  • Correct Protection recruitment tests, carry out a technical validation interview for candidates and consultants in positions dedicated to Protection issues proposed by the HR department, and carry out briefings and debriefings of Protection positions.

 

YOUR PROFILE

 

  • Field experience and / or specific training in the field of protection
  • Experience in producing evidence-based strategic documents (scoping documents, articles or procedures)
  • Excellent writing skills in English (fluency in French is a plus)
  • Synthetic spirit and rigor / Organised / Respectful of deadlines / Ability to manage different priorities / Autonomous

 

SI WILL OFFER YOU

 

  • Fixed-term contract employee of 6 months in half time from July 2019, or full-time fixed-term contract of 3 months
  • executive status based in Clichy la Garenne (92)
  • Salary at 2880 euros gross monthly or 3000 euros gross, according to the new grid in effect at headquarters
  • Mutual (80%), Tickets Restaurants (60%), transport (50%) covered by the association
