| Job Description:Desired start date: 01st Feb 2023. Duration of the mission: 6 months, with possible extension Location: Syria Mission, HASSAKE GovernorateSolidarités International (SI) has been working in Syria since 2012.Syria mission is dedicated to work on recently opened and challenging areas to provide lifesaving activities to the population affected by the conflict. SI implements integrated programming both in North West and North East Syria (NES), which include a response to first emergencies (emergency shelter programming, emergency WASH, etc.), to protracted crisis (response in NWS camps, WASH, shelter and basic needs response to informal settlements and host communities in NES), and more sustainable-oriented activities (high-scale rehabilitation of water & irrigation infrastructure, support to livelihood, rehabilitation of schools and private houses, etc). Additionally, SI is leading a BHA-funded consortium providing public health-oriented response in the whole NES, together with three other international partners. Other donors supporting the mission are the following: ECHO, SCHF, Global Europe, CDCS, CIAA.The Coordination team is based in Amman (Jordan). The Northwest operation is managed from Amman and the operational base is located in Azaz (Aleppo governorate). In the Northeast, the operations are managed from Amuda/Hassakeh and Raqqa. The mission also has a limited team in Gaziantep (Turkey) working in low profile.About the jobGeneral objectives:Under the responsibility of the Field coordinator, the communication officer base is in charge of working closely with the programs, MEAL and IM teams to create external communication material. His/her work will also been overseen by the coordination team in Aman as well as per the HQ communication team in Paris to guarantee the compliance to SI communication rules and policies. External communicationBased on SI strategical position in NES, the communication officer will create content based on:Photo and video from field activitiesPrimary data existing in different surveys done at base levelReporting tools done by the program team with the support of the IM departmentSecondary data review in close collaboration with the Field Coordinator and the program managerFor medias:In collaboration with the HQ communication department, the communication officer will create content both written and visual, serving international general public with the scope of raising awareness, informing on the context of intervention and calling for action and donation.The communication officer is expected to be proactive in terms of proposing ideas, content and communication support, all external communication having to be validated by the CD.For humanitarian community (cluster, donors):The purpose of this communication will be to influence the humanitarian response in NES by highlighting to the humanitarian community strategical issues with a data-based approach and promoting SI innovative approach on under-reported topics. For SI’s donors:The communication officer will manage the projects’ visibility lines to make sure SI respects its contractual engagements.While the development of the strategical approach will be led by the field coordinator, the communication officer is expected to proactively identify the data and information to be included in communication documents. He/She will therefore need to develop a good understanding of programs.It is expected from the communication officer to propose innovative solutions and to be able to tailor the message to the targeted audience including medias and general public, donors, working groups, other (I)NGOs, OtherDatabases management:The communication officer will create maintain 3 databases that are essential in terms of internal and external communication:To maintain a photo/video database: He/she will have to identify relay amongst the program teams to have all necessary photo and video material to illustrate SI activities. He/she will also be in charge of providing photo and video training to the staff. The archiving solution will be developed in close relationship with the HQ communication department.To maintain a secondary data database: the Communication officer is in charge of centralizing the existing secondary data in a database easily accessible to all program and MEAL teams in collaboration with the CD assistant. Including qualitative data (reports, factsheets etc.) and quantitative data (population figures, market monitoring etc.) from Working groups, partners, other NGOs, HNAP, HNO, OCHA… The CO will also be responsible for keeping the secondary data up to date to ensure the accuracy of the database content at all times.While proposing creative ideas, he/she has to be data oriented, be critical on the content of each communication, and able to adapt to work with very technical persons. While this position is mostly focusing on external communication, minor tasks of internal one may be added during the mission. |

SI will offer youA volunteer post: According to experience, starting 800 EUR gross per month (+ 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem.SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s country of origin and the place of assignment.Vacation: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented at the rate of on 7 working days every three months. For a one-year assignment, the expatriate will have a 7 working days break at 3/6 and 9 month.To these break periods, it is necessary to add the granting of 1 additional rest day per month worked > i.e. 12 days in addition for a 1-year contract.Social and medical cover: Expatriates benefit from an insurance package which reimburses all healthcare expenses (including medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are refunded.LIVING CONDITIONS:Position based in Amuda and Hassake, with movements to Raqqa base. Depending on the area, curfew would apply. Field visits are possible in most areas but would have to be approved by field coordinators.The candidate will be accommodated in the guesthouse in Amuda, with 5/6 other people.
