MSF Foundation, a specialized entity created by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and dedicated to innovation, won the Google Artificial Intelligence Impact Challenge grant from a pool of 2,600 candidates, to develop a smartphone application that would help doctors and clinicians diagnose antibiotic resistance in low-resource settings.

The application, known as ASTapp, would use image processing and artificial intelligence technology to make it easier for non-expert microbiologists to interpret tests that measure resistance to antibiotics. This will help guide clinicians on the best course of treatment and better ensure that patients are receiving the most appropriate antibiotics.  Antibiotic resistance (ABR) has been recognized as an international public health challenge and is expected to be the leading cause of death globally in 50 years.

PRODUCT MANAGER – OFFLINE MOBILE APPLICATION M/F

About the role:

Reporting directly to the MSF Foundation Director and the project coordinator, the product manager will work collaboratively to develop the product vision, carefully balancing feature definition, user experience and technical execution management right through to delivery to the end user.

The product manager will work with the project team – primarily the director, the project coordinator, the MSF microbiologist, the responsible for the development of the application and the mobile developer – to make that vision a reality.

He/she will also actively review the conditions around the distribution of the app, which will be free and open source.

Responsibilities:

• Refine and represent the vision of the application’s scope and features;
• Manage inter-disciplinary teams and lead them through the entire product development process from ideation to roll-out;
• Translate the specifications and scope into user experiences that function effectively across all the Android devices used in the field;
• Responsible for the product’s recipe and the marketing launch;
• Identify and monitor the main risks for the development and distribution of the application;
• Define and monitor project indicators (adoption rates and other relevant indicators);
• In partnership with MSF’s communication department, you manage the product’s communication (media plan, press release, social media, etc.);
• Report on progress to the MSF steering and scientific committees.

• Degree in IT engineering, web/mobile or application development training;
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a product manager or similar role;
• 2 years of experience in product development and mobile technologies across all mobile platforms;
• Experience in launching products;
• Professional experience in, and/or contribution to, open source software is a plus.

Technical skills:

• Client web development (HTML/JS (jquery)/CSS);
• Mobile application development (Android & IOS);
• Experience with Tensorflow or Tensorflow Lite is a plus.

Languages: Fluent written and spoken French and English.

Salary and conditions: €60,000/annum over 13 months; 22 days RTT/year (« reduction in working hours » days off); Health insurance fully covered by MSF; Lunch vouchers with a face value of €9 (60% covered by MSF); Monthly travel card (50% covered by MSF).
