We are looking for a commercially focused and driven candidate to take up the role as Area Sales Manager for Maersk in the Central West Africa Area (CWA).The CWA covers the countries of Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger which are all fast changing and dynamic markets.
Reporting to the Central West Africa Area Managing Director, the Sales Manager will be a key member of the Area Leadership Team (ALT). Via a team of dedicated sales colleagues and in coordination with the other teams in the organization – he or she will deliver on the commercial strategy, drive cost and efficiency improvements and ensure employee engagement.
The role is fully responsible for end-to end logistics (ocean and landside) sales activities in the Ivory Coast and acts as the functional manager for the remaining countries.Ivory Coast boasts large volumes of agricultural products such as cocoa (largest worldwide producer), coffee, cotton, rubber, oil palm, cashew, tuna as well as bananas and mangos.
With its head office in Abidjan, Maersk has established a strong and expanding presence in the Area with an expectation for continued growth and development in the future – with an increased focus on land-based activities.

Key responsibilities• Provide strong leadership and coaching to the sales team to achieve budgeted volume and yield performance.
• Work closely with teams and individuals to identify and improve competency gaps and devise objectives and development plans.
• Ensure the entire sales organisation utilize and capitalize on SFDC (salesforce.com) and develop the Sales Pipeline mind-set through coaching and pipeline reviews, ensure quality and hygiene is maintained.
• Manage the delivery and optimization of revenue, yield, volume and market share targets on targeted trades and overall export and import performance.
• Ensure comprehensive customer coverage; align sales efforts with commercial strategy through close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Set and drive the achievement of the Sales Incentive targets across the area, ensuring that the plan is run timely and to a high standard
• Drive a Performance Management culture.
• Maintain senior relationships with top accounts and external stakeholders.
• Coach, lead and develop direct reports and others, work closely with teams and individuals to identify and improve competency gaps and devise objectives and development plans.
• Attract and retain strong talents inside and outside of the organization.
• Accountable for driving collaboration between the Sales team and the Customer Service team to ensure first class service delivery is provided to all relevant customers.
We are looking for• Bachelor or master’s degree in sales or logistics discipline
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in a senior commercial leadership role within logistics sector.
• Proven track record in commercialization of landside services (mainly intermodal, customs house brokerage, warehousing and depot services).
• Understanding and having an interest in global trade, local and international market landscape as well as industry trends.
• Strong commercial mindset and networking skills
• Inspirational and ambitious leader with a high level of energy.
• Having the ability to lead and coach teams in an engaging and motivating environment and have the ability to positively influence colleagues outside direct report scope.
• Fluent communication skills in French and English.
