FMDV PRESENTATION & CONTEXT
FMDV is a global network of local and regional governments with the mission to develop and promote investment and financing solutions for urban development. Both a network of expertise and an incubator for operational strategies, FMDV supports its partners in three operational areas at all levels of intervention (international, regional, national, and local):
- Supporting strategies and operational solutions for financing urban development: FMDV supports ministries, local governments and their associations, international organizations and financing institutions, through support and advisory missions, in the design and deployment of strategies and institutional mechanisms for financing urban development.
- Organizing the convergence of stakeholders to accelerate action: FMDV is working to build a common vision of financing carried by various stakeholders – public, private, and institutional. FMDV contributes to international multi-stakeholder platforms on climate finance, organizes multi-stakeholder dialogues at the national level, and connects cities with investors (matchmaking sessions).
- Leading advocacy for action, producing and sharing knowledge: FMDV contributes to the political and institutional debate on localizing finance through advocacy actions (including at the United Nations), the publication of reference books, case studies, and the organization of training courses and study trips.
FMDV has mobilized more than 1,500 local governments from 110 countries and the majority of donors around these issues, and has helped to mobilize more than EUR 1,3 billion over the last 5 years.
Based in Paris, FMDV has offices and representations in Africa (Madagascar, Nouakchott) and Latin America (Brazil).
FMDV is recruiting one full time intern to support programs on financing urban transitions and its global advocacy work, willing to work in a multicultural and collaborative environment and advance the agenda of cities and subnational actors at the global level.

Under the supervision of FMDV’s Executive Director, the intern will support the following activities related to the international advocacy work of FMDV;

FMDV also actively contributes to global and regional agendas through the Finance In Common Summit led by AFD, the Malaga Coalition and several other initiatives.
The intern is expected to conduct research, collect, analyze and summarize data and information on subnational finance to contribute to the production of strategic notes and knowledge products (factsheets, concept notes, desk review, etc) on subnational financing, to prepare the advocacy work of FMDV at the international level.

For the past ten years, FMDV has played a leading role in promoting the role of Subnational Development Banks (SDBs) in the international agenda and has also been enhancing their capacities at global, regional and national levels. Thanks to FMDV’s action, SDBs progressively gained international recognition in the United Nations agenda and were more and more considered as key stakeholders to bridge the subnational investment gap and allow the implementation of global agendas such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the objectives of the Paris agreement.
