International Medical Corps recrute 01 Consultant – NNPHL Virtual Workshop

Country: Washington, DC
Department: Humanitarian Response

Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:
International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at high risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

Background

The National NGO Humanitarian Program on Humanitarian Leadership (NNPHL) is a rigorous, innovative blended learning leadership training program designed to train the next generation of humanitarian professionals. The program aims to strengthen the leadership capacity of national and local humanitarians. Funded by the US Agency for International Development, Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance, the project is being implemented through a consortium that brings together a combination of operational and technical expertise, spearheaded by Concern Worldwide US in collaboration with International Medical Corps and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative.

The NNPHL partners work together to ensure that quality leadership development opportunities are available for a wide range of humanitarians, with particular emphasis on national level staff working at national NGOs and a limited number of INGOs, gender balance and regional representation. Since 2016, the program has grown in scope and depth by building on lessons learned and successes of the NNPHL program, ultimately creating a rigorous leadership program for mid-level, national staff and reaching more than 3,650 learners throughout the world, including both blended learning participants and online learners. NNPHL’s goal is for participants to have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to take on leadership responsibilities within a variety of humanitarian organizations, thereby improving the delivery of services to those in need of humanitarian assistance. To learn more please visit: www.concernusa.org/NNPHL.

Traditionally, the NNPHL intensive leadership workshop is part of a five-month blended learning program. However, in light of the COVID-19 crisis, NNPHL is not able to host the workshop in person and hopes to adapt the week-long, in-person workshop into a synchronous, online model. The workshops are five days and take place in locations close to humanitarian response hubs. The methodology of the workshops is highly participatory with a variety of learning techniques utilized including a simulation, group table top work, role play and lecture. In addition to NNPHL’s current learning objectives [the program explores a range of leadership characteristics, but focuses on three leadership characteristics critical for humanitarian professionals: self-awareness, the ability to motivate and influence others, and the capacity to exercise critical judgment], the partners would like to incorporate an additional learning objective: exploring how to manage and lead during a pandemic. The participants for this workshop are 30-35 humanitarians working throughout Asia (e.g., Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, the Philippines, Pakistan, and other countries).
