Photography plays a crucial role in UNICEF’s work.  UNICEF Ghana uses powerful images to support as well as complement its visibility efforts, these photos are used in publications, annual reports, and donor reports, and on social media platforms. The photos are also shared with other UNICEF offices around the world.

Required is the service of a local photographer to support the programmatic and advocacy work of UNICEF in the five northern regions of Ghana.

How can you make a difference?

Consultant to produce and deliver high-resolution photographs to illustrate UNICEF’s impact Northern Regions.

The objective of the consultancy is to provide photographic evidence of UNICEF field activities in the five northern regions. Consultant is required to undertake at least 6 field visits in the year with UNICEF staff in the northern regions to document the impact of UNICEF’s programmatic work in the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene; health and nutrition, education, child protection and policy and evidence. Consultant would work according to brief outlined by specific programme or communication specialist / officer and would support high-profile field visits. The experience in managing high level dignitaries and officials is a bonus.  The task requires accuracy, patience, ability to travel and work alongside others in difficult terrain and unpredictable circumstances.

 

Task, Deliverables and Time Frame for Submission

Attending at least five field visits with UNICEF staff to document programmatic activities conducted by staff and partners with communities, families and children in the five northern regions

 

60 days A set of high quality photographs covering the five field visits and the programmatic work.
Post- production of photographs (editing, captioning) 30 days A complete set of high quality photographs as described above submitted and cleared by Communications Manager
Accompanying UNICEF on high-level field visits to produce content of the visit for social media and other platforms 15 (non-consecutive) days A complete set of high quality photographs and suggested text as described above submitted and cleared by Communications Manager

 

End product

  1. At least 50 compelling edited and appropriately captioned photographs which tell a story from each field visit undertaken.

Supervision and Reporting Arrangement

The timeline and frequency of the reporting required by the Consultant on progress to date will depend on the assignment. However, the Consultant will account to focal persons from the Communication and programmes section with an overall clearance from the Chief of Field Office, with support from Communication Manager, Accra.

Payment and Payment Schedule

The consultant will be paid a lump sum based on negotiated fee upon submission of deliverables and approval by the supervisor.

Timeframe

It is expected that the assignment will be completed within 150 days spread across 11. 5 months. Although this contract will be awarded for 11.5 months duration, consultant will not be engaged on full time during the 11.5 months period. Consultant will be called upon to carry out specific tasks for short durations as the need arises for which payment will be calculated on the basis of daily professional fee stipulated in the contract.

Copyright, Patents and other Proprietary Rights (if applicable)

UNICEF shall be entitled to all intellectual property and other proprietary rights including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to documents and other materials which bear a direct relation to or are prepared or collected in consequence or in the course of the execution of this contract. At UNICEF request, the Consultant shall take all necessary steps, execute all necessary documents and generally assist in securing such proprietary rights and transferring them to UNICEF in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelors degree in communication photography or related field of study
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in taking high-quality photographs
  • Experience of documenting photographs in northern regions of Ghana an advantage.
  • Experience of documenting high-profile officials and demonstrating experience in diplomacy, and discretion an advantage, as well as ability to take excellent photographs and work calmly in sometimes unpredictable circumstances.
  • Experience of working with UN agencies
  • Fluent in English and in Dagbanli, Dagaare and / or Guruni « local languages » in northern Ghana.
  • Ability to communicate with children, people in rural communities and local authorities an advantage
