Organizational Setting
 The FAO Zambia Country office is implementing a project entitled: Emergency assistance to mitigate the impact of El Niño-induced drought on livelihoods of vulnerable agricultural and agro-pastoral households in Zambia. FAO in this regards wishes to hire the services of a Livestock Expert
 Reporting Lines
 The Livestock Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Zambia; the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator and will work in close collaboration with the National Project Coordination Unit (NPCU) in the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL), DMMU and relevant FAO technical units

Livestock advisory services and training
Tasks and responsibilities
 The National Specialist will perform the following duties:
Provide hands-on practice on livestock interventions/ techniques and services
Guide the field-based technicians to implement livestock-related activities, including the identification of candidates for trainings
Undertake a ToT and provide technical support during the planning workshop for Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL)
Provide technical backstopping during awareness creation of livestock disease management, vaccinations and treatments Train farmers, agriculture officers, agro-dealers and other stakeholders on how to use the system
Prepare training plans, participate in the design and conduct of training for livestock extension staff and farmers.
Conduct visits to the project sites and ensure that the implementation is proceeding as per plan; and make recommendations for adjustments, as necessary.
Prepare periodic reports and contribute to project progress and final reports.
Perform other related duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
Advanced university degree in Animal Sciences or Veterinary Medicine or the equivalent
Fluency in spoken and written English
National of Zambia or resident in the country

 Selection Criteria
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
 Experience of not less than Seven years working with farmers or farmer organisations
Working experience with emergency projects or related work
Ability to train staff, and farmers using adult learning approaches or related
Adequately conversant with project area or similar and be in a position to communicate in at least one of the local languages of the project locations
Strong interpersonal skills to work with various stakeholders
