Outreach and Business Development
Basic Function of the Position: Incumbent serves as the sole Commercial Specialist in the U.S. Commercial Service Liaison Office at the African Development Bank (AfDB). Identifies and tracks AfDB-funded projects and proposals, alerts U.S. firms to these opportunities, and encourages and assists U.S. firms in accessing AfDB funding and, as appropriate, advocates on their behalf. Reports activities using databases, various programs, and social media. The goals and objectives of these activities are to alert and encourage U.S. firms to access AfDB funding to increase the exports of U.S. goods and services, and to promote and protect U.S. commercial interests in Africa.
Qualifications and Evaluations
EXPERIENCE: Five years progressively responsible experience in banking, finance, international trade or finance, business development, business analysis, strategic planning, marketing, trade promotion, consulting, or management, as a Finance or Business Analyst, Project Manager or Advisor, or Consultant, or as a U.S. Commercial Service Specialist or Assistant is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Familiarity with the mandates of the AfDB and the U.S. Department of Commerce, including trade promotion goals, policies and procedures, and advocacy on behalf of U.S. firms is required. Must know where to find guidelines issued by U.S. Government, particularly the Commerce Department, State Department, and GSA, and then understand those guidelines and apply them to the activities of this position.
Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in business, international business, economics, marketing, management, commerce, finance, international finance, public policy, international relations, history, social policy, social sciences, African/American studies, government, or other closely related field is required.
LANGUAGE: English: Level IV (fluency) speaking, reading, and writing is required. This may be tested.
French: Level IV (fluency) speaking, reading and writing is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have excellent keyboard skills and be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office functions.
