Early Grant Information for NGOs
The goal of the NOFO is to provide support to the South African National Department of Health (NDoH) and other Government National Departments, Provincial Departments of Health (PDoH), District Health Teams, and CDC-funded District Support Partners (DSPs) to integrate primary mental health (MH) service provision and improved referral for complex MH disorders into the current HIV/TB package of services in order to improve health outcomes amongst people living with HIV (PLHIV). In this NOFO, MH encompasses common MH disorders (such as anxiety and depression), complex MH disorders (such as neurosis and psychosis), and also harmful substance use and alcohol abuse.
The aim of this NOFO is to support:
The NDoH to develop policies that fully integrate MH screening and treatment at every step of the HIV continuum of care in order to bridge the gap, empower HCWs and to create awareness among communities on the impact of MH on HIV programs;
The PEPFAR-supported PDoH to adapt National policies and guidelines to the reality on the ground, to implement, mentor, monitor, and improve MH services;
The PEPFAR-supported District to mentor, monitor, and improve MH services at the facility level with the help of DSPs;
HCWs at facility and community level to appropriately handle unhealthy stress, recognize the need for external MH support, and be provided such support to alleviate anxiety, absenteeism, and burnout.
