British Red Cross recruits 01 Food Security and Livelihoods Adviser

Description Location: Moorgate, London
Full time 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Salary: GBP 38,712 pa inclusive of Inner London Weighting and Market Premium

Enough food. A regular income. Why are so many people in the world without these basics? In the Food Security & Livelihoods team at British Red Cross we think this is unacceptable. Like our colleagues across the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement we refuse to ignore that hundreds of millions of vulnerable people still live on less than $1.25 per day.

But with the right support we have seen that people can help themselves out of crises and become more resilient to future shocks.

As part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, our team here at British Red Cross works with Red Cross and Red Crescent partner societies in the world’s lowest-income countries across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean. The RCRC vast volunteer network and auxiliary status allows us to work in areas inaccessible by many other organisations and offers us a unique role to play in national development.

Our International Strategy focuses on addressing chronic hunger, contributing to the global SDG commitment to achieve Zero Hunger. We partner with RCRC national societies to improve food security and promote resilient livelihoods in some of the most difficult contexts including chronic food insecure countries in Africa, regions affected by protracted conflicts and impacted by natural disasters. We do this through new and innovative approaches and improved early warning early action systems that protect and strengthen livelihoods.

As FSL Adviser with British Red Cross you will provide technical oversight of food and nutrition security and livelihoods programming. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team with skills in disaster risk reduction, health, WASH and cash based assistance; all complementing your own experience and together promoting innovative and integrated responses to meet the specific needs of those assisted.

You will provide both distance and in-country technical support to the regional teams and RCRC partners to ensure quality programming and accountability, helping build their capacity and understanding, identifying evidence based solutions and relevant FSL interventions.

If you are a food security and livelihoods programme manager or adviser with international experience, ready to learn or already conversant with cash programming and interested to join a committed team that is part of the world’s largest independent humanitarian network, please send your curriculum vitae (four pages maximum) and a short cover letter outlining your motivations to join the British Red Cross and suitability for the role International_recruitment@redcross.org.uk

You must have the right to work in the UK to apply for this position.
