The Secretary General is responsible for overall coordination of administrative tasks for Baobab Consulting at the global level. He/ She serves as an administrative deputy to the CEO and will be strategically based in Dakar, Senegal to expand in-country business activities and ultimately spearhead the creation of a Senegal country office. We are looking for a self-starter who has superior networking skills, a track record of managing multicultural teams and a keen interest in doing business in Senegal, across West Africa and the world.

This role requires an intensive level of cross-collaboration with:

  • Business unit
  • Other units (Growth, Partnership & Operations)
  • Branch managers

This role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be based in Dakar.

Global duties 70%

  • Support Baobab day-to-day operations and assist the Baobab team through internal projects, provide strategic support and assist with all aspects of the business structure.
  • Be involved in client-facing projects, events and activities and support as required
  • Serve as internal communications and community manager across Baobab, providing relevant updates and encouraging participation in all of Baobab’s activities, in collaboration with the Operations Department
  • Play an active role in functional and cross-functional meetings, including C-suite calls and ensure proper follow-up of action items, making sure all company deadlines are met and track goals
  • Contribute to Baobab communications effort, such as white papers, newsletters and social media in collaboration with the Growth team
  • Support the development of human resources policies and be the center of knowledge management and information for the company in collaboration with the Operations Unit
  • Assist CBO in proposal development and be familiar with Baobab business model, historical performance and target customer segments.
  • Manage CEO and leadership’s schedule, and manage Baobab’s Google Calendar
  • Analyze inbound requests for leadership’s time, and pitch leadership for branding/visibility opportunities and negotiate on their behalf
  • Review inbound requests from Baobab social media channels and company email address and solicit responses from appropriate people

Country Level duties 30%

  • Support the development of the company’s country strategy
  • Update the Dakar CRM tool and report on progress
  • Lead outreach efforts through event participation and convenings as relevant
  • Lead recruitment of local team and onboard new team members/contractors as needed
  • Represent Baobab Consulting in local foras and groups to build Baobab brand in-country
  • Source deals / opportunities and generate a pipeline of leads in Senegal
  • Support Baobab clients and proposal writing for all Senegal projects

NB: This is one of our first full time roles. We do expect a level of flexibility and team spirit when it comes to helping with all aspects of company operations.

  • High level of comfort with technology and digital work spaces and an interest in utilizing new technologies to increase efficiency (Google workspace, Slack, Trello)
  • Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills with impeccable multitasking abilities

Requirements (Candidates are encouraged to document in their applications how they address each required item below)

  • Commitment to Baobab Mission, Values and Goals
  • Minimum Bachelor degree in a relevant field, such as business, entrepreneurship, communications, human resources, political science or international development (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience of which at least 1 year in a managerial level role
  • Field experience in Africa
  • Project Management experience
  • Business Development experience
  • Experience working in a remote setting

Desirable:

  • Fluent in French
  • Field experience in Senegal
  • Prior experience working in as a consultant in advisory firm or communications agency

Compensation

This position is full-time and the holder will receive a monthly stipend for living expenses and a ticket (if applicable). The final amount of the stipend will be determined based on the skills and experience of the selected candidate. Commissions for sales, paid consulting opportunities and opportunities for professional development are also available.
