Position Overview

Avaaz’s Campaign Directors direct the core work of the organization. As a Campaign Director, you will be responsible for delivering innovative and impactful campaigns on a range of national and global issues, helping to channel the time and money of our members in the most effective ways possible. This is an exciting leadership position at the heart of one of the most innovative and promising public organizations in the world today. It offers a unique platform from which to develop and pursue large-scale social change efforts.

Expériences / Formation

Responsibilities

– Identifying opportunities for strong campaigns. – Researching and developing entire campaign strategies, theories of change, and tactics, as well as project-managing campaign teams for implementation. – Drafting compelling campaign emails and other communications to mobilize millions of people for action while making the Avaaz brand shine in the world. – Project-managing campaign teams, and line managing campaigners. – Conducting high-level advocacy and relationship building with government, business and third sector officials. – Consulting with partners and experts and rapidly developing a strong strategy, policy, and message. – Public speaking and media. – Helping to shape the overall strategic direction of the organization, and at times taking responsibility for recruitment, team-building and management, and special projects.

Qualifications

This is a demanding role that requires remarkable talent in a wide range of areas. The core competencies are:

– Strong strategic, creative, and innovative thinking. – Outstanding written and oral communication skills. – Passion and commitment to global justice, citizen empowerment and social change. – High professionalism, self-motivation, efficiency and results-oriented delivery on short timelines. – Strong teamwork skills, comfortable in a highly collaborative team culture and a hierarchical team structure. – Strong project, staff and self management skills. – High degree of knowledge and engagement across a range of global issues, combining the ability to engage in depth with questions of policy and political strategy with a readiness to move swiftly from issue to issue. – Fluency in English is a requirement. Fluency in other languages is desirable.

Desirable competencies:

– Understanding the media environment with an ability to design campaign strategies that harness the power of media. – Understanding and ‘fluency’ in using social media platforms as a way to engage the public and increase pressure on campaign targets. – A background in online campaigning, with an understanding of areas such as content testing, statistical analysis, online organising, storytelling, and basic coding skills. – Strong experience in advocacy and solid contacts within and outside the non for profit community.

Salaire

Salary 

The salary range for this position depends on location and level of seniority of the candidate.

Location

Avaaz is a virtual organization, with most of our work done over email, Gdocs, telephone, and Skype. Our staff are based in cities all over the world. For this position, the candidate would ideally be based in Africa, although other locations may be considered.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary varies with location and experience, but is highly competitive with leading nongovernmental organizations. Specific benefits also range with location, but all include 5 weeks paid vacation per year, 10 paid holidays, phone and home internet reimbursement, out-of-home office/co-working reimbursement, and professional development funds.
