YWC Call for Proposals: Be Bold. Be Creative. Get Support.

The Youth for Water and Climate #YWC Platform is looking for youth-led projects for its call for proposals “Be Bold. Be Creative. Get Support.” which has been designed to identify, encourage and support youth engagement related to water management and climate change adaptation.

 

This call for proposal is made possible due to the contributions of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, which will enable youth from around the world to access financial support to help implement innovative and creative water and climate projects.

Objectives

  • To support youth initiatives related to water and climate issues, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and the climate agenda.
  • Through this call, youth-led initiatives of all types will be showcased to provide as evidence of practical examples on how youth contribute to integrated water management solutions.
  • The competition covers all water and climate related issues including but not limited to agricultural water management, health, disasters, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), watershed management, etc.

Themes

The Youth for Water and Climate platform is structured around 4 thematic pillars that cover a wide range of topics. Admissible projects must cover one or several of these themes, as listed below:

  1. Water and health: can be related to WASH, health campaigns, water-borne diseases, etc.
  2. Water and agriculture: can be related to irrigation, drought issues, rainwater harvesting, etc.
  3. Water-related risks: can be related to risk management, recovery and response to natural disasters, floods, drought, etc.
  4. Sharing water: can be related to transboundary cooperation, watershed management, water & peace, etc.

Prize & Incentives

  • The selected projects will receive financial support up to 3500 euros each. These projects will be featured on the YWC platform where they will be able to interact with other supporters, including technical experts, that can help them scale up their projects. In addition, every selected projectwill be featured in YWC outreach activities in the following months, including through a project poster showcase during COP24.
  • The financial support can be used over 10 months of implementation of the projects. Financial and operational reports will need to be submitted at different stages of the project (mid-project & end of phase reports).
  • In addition, 10 projects receiving medium-high scores from the jury will receive technical support from YWC to have their project published on the platform for further visibility and support.

Project Types

  • They encourage submissions of development projects, advocacy projects and/or social entrepreneurship projects.
  • They can be new or ongoing.
  • Project proposals showing innovativeness, such as the use of new technologies are encouraged.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, participants and their project must correspond to the following rules:

  • The project must be youth-led, with the youth being aged between 18 and 35;
  • Project leaders from low and middle income countries or targeting indigenous communities will be prioritized;
  • Project must address one or several of the 4 YWC pillars;
  • Youth participation must be included across all aspects of the project.
  • Projects must have a direct local impact on vulnerable communities;
  • Can be an ongoing or new project;
  • The proposals will be assessed and scored according to a scoring grid;
  • An additional score will also be attributed for innovativeness, including social entrepreneurship and the use of new technologies.
  • Projects already receiving funds from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) are not admissible.
