JOB DESCRIPTION

*Preferred Location: Senegal. Position location to be determined by home country of successful candidate within a jurisdiction (country or US state) where WVI is registered to operate.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This role will provide strategic leadership for development of global interfaith relations and position World Vision as a thought leader and a compelling example of igniting positive and lasting change in the world. In light of the new organizational strategy, this position will seek to partner with different faith actors, collaborate with partners to develop and scale innovative evidence based models, and grow capacity internally and externally to address roots of poverty and maximize impact for most vulnerable children and fragile context.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide strategic leadership for development of global interfaith relations and the global reputation of WVI in multi-faith & Muslim contexts:

Scan global landscape of other-faith and interfaith organisations.

Do risk and values analysis and credibility scan of interfaith/other faith organisations.

Prioritize selected global and regional organisations which will be strategic partners for WV to engage with.

Share prioritized organisations with Advocacy & External Engagement working groups and across regions and National Offices.

Develop global capabilities to collaborate with different faith actors and advocate for broader impact to create greater scale and more sustained impact than we could on our own:

Develop capabilities, set strategic priorities and ensure accountability for partnerships with different faith actors as well as build capacity of the WV’s senior leadership for the application of WV’s policies in Muslim and other faith majority and mixed faith contexts.

Build capacity of WV partnership for interfaith engagement, while living out our identity with boldness and humility as it relates to staffing, program and policy application in Muslim and other faith majority and mixed-faith contexts.

Support leadership formation process to build capacity in Muslim and other faith sensitivity, policy and program application with specific focus on capacity building for engaging in fragile contexts.

Support for Regional Leaders, National Directors and Senior Leadership Teams across the WV partnership to apply our faith and faith identity in other faith contexts (Muslim and other).

Build global capacity and guidance resources for interfaith engagements.

Position World Vision as a thought leader and a compelling example of igniting positive and lasting change through constructive interfaith collaboration in relief, development and advocacy:

Initiate and develop functional relationships with prioritised global network of humanitarian, child-focused Muslim, other faith and interfaith international NGO’s/networks for increased outcomes related to child wellbeing.

Built WV’s reputation for excellence in Christian-other faith relations in humanitarian, development and advocacy sectors.

Represent WV in international forums, conferences and engagement opportunities relating to interfaith relations and collaboration.

Strengthens evidence of impact of faith through the role of different faith actors in development, humanitarian and advocacy for the well-being of children:

Identify and catalogue emerging best practices of integrated child wellbeing ministry programs in Muslim and other faith majority and mixed faith contexts.

Collaborate with Evidence and Learning department to research and document evidence of interfaith collaboration, engagement with faith actors for enhanced outcomes on child wellbeing and sustainable development goals.

Develop and present/publish key documents to position WV as thought leader and a compelling example of igniting positive and lasting change driven by faith convictions across the world, in relief, development, advocacy and fundraising.

Work alongside support offices to mobilise new resources for programmes in other faith majority contexts, with specific focus on fragile contexts:

Assist WV Support Offices to raise funds for WV programs in Islamic/other faith contexts through grants from major private donors, governments and foundations.

Provide standard language for grant applications, positioning WV’s strengths as catalyst for positive change through constructive faith engagement as Christian NGO based on evidence and existing case studies.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Required:

Master degree in theology, religious studies, or other related fields.

At least 5-10 years’ working experience in diverse Muslim and other faith contexts working with the poor and oppressed.

At least 5-10 years’ experience and demonstrated understanding of other faith communities, the complexity of working as Christian NGO within interfaith contexts, relationship with the faith and development arena, major players, and joint work towards the sustainable development goals.

At least 5 years’ experience working within WV with demonstrated experience of field based applications of WV’s policies relating to interfaith engagement as it relates to staffing and programs.

Exemplary personal Christian commitment, vibrant spirituality, and Christ-centered life and work.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in culturally and religiously diverse environments.

Deep understanding and extensive experience of Islamic contexts, especially in fragile contexts.

A team player with proven effectiveness working collaboratively with others and developing partnerships both internally and externally.

Clarity in conceptual thinking and communication including critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge the status quo.

Excellent communication skills in writing and producing clear, concise and appealing documents.

Strong computer literacy in the use of MS Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and the hosting of webinars and conference calls.

5-7 years’ experience within the development/humanitarian industry.

5-7 years’ working experience in working with faith leaders and other-faith organisations/networks in humanitarian/development work.

5-7 years’ working experience in international, cross-cultural settings.

Proven experience working with and through networks.

Extensive experience creating solid, effective, and mutually beneficial relationships with faith leaders and across faith groups.

Effective in written and verbal communication in English.

Fluency in Arabic or French a plus; other languages helpful also.

Preferred:

Knowledge of and commitment to World Vision objectives and ministry priorities. Support the whole Mission Statement, Core Values and Covenant of Partnership.

Self-starter with strong time management, coordination, prioritization, multi-tasking skills.

Ability to work with a high level of ambiguity.

Excellent interpersonal skills and proven flexibility to work well with others with diverse personal styles.

Work collaboratively with team members when assigned to work as part of a team.

Work Environment:

The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.
