ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXTWe are seeking to engage a national surveyor, based in Khartoum, Sudan.
The Surveyor shall report to the Project Engineer, or other staff member designated by the Head of the WFP Sudan Engineering unit, in relation to all aspects of construction and land surveys of the projects, as required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)1. Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports and legal descriptions of surveys in order to describe, certify and assume liability for work performed;
2. Analyze survey objectives and specifications in order to prepare survey proposals;
3. Direct or conduct surveys in order to confirm legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.  Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases or other legal documents.
4. Search legal records, survey records and land titles in order to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.  Use relevant information and individual judgement to determine whether events or processess comply with laws, regulations or standards.
5. Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas, using theodolites, transits, levels and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).
6. Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations and other deodetic measuresments.
7. Establish fixed points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments.
8. Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data in order to determine positions, shapes and elevations of geomorphic and topopgraphic features.
9. Calculate heights, depths, relative positons, property lines and other characterices of terrain.
10. Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit or verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted ast survey sites.
11. Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimensions of land and land features.
12. Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
13. Prepare all data, charts, plots, maps, records and documents related to surveys.
14. Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and architectural personnel, clients and others concerned with projects.
15. Adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy.  Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
16. Train assistants and helpers and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps.
17. Use computers and computer systems (including hardward adn software) to enter data or process information.
18. Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures.
19. Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, email or in person.
20. Communicate with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, goverment and other external sources.  This information can be exchanged in person, in writing or by telephone or email.
21. Keep self up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the job.
22. Performe day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintenance of information files and paperwork.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation :    University degree in land survey. 
Exeperience :   Minimum 3 years of proven experience as Surveyor.
Language :  Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory.
OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. • Knowledge of computer software as but not limited to CAD and BIM software, Microsoft Office package. • Knowledge of national codes, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules. • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. • Read and understand information and ideas presented in writing in work related documents. Listen to and understand information and ideas. Communicate information and ideas in speaking clearly or writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). • Use mathematics to solve problems. Add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly. Choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem. • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.• Monitor/Assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Teach others how to do something. Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
