Project summary
The Feed the Future Senegal Dekkal Geej project is a 5 year program funded by USAID. Feed the Future is an initiative of the United States Government. The Dekkal Geej project aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable fishing system that is inclusive equitable and efficient. The program has 6 strategic approaches including stakeholder engagement, information for decision-making, co-management, incentives for behavior change, livelihoods and value chain and policy development. The project is at its mid-point and aims to accelerate transformation change in the fishing sector.
Position summary
The Stakeholder Engagement & Behavior Change Officer is responsible for developing and implementing activities that increase engagement of diverse stakeholder groups, create meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding on sustainable fisheries, promoting incentives and disincentives for sustainable fishing, and provides scientific and research rigor and reporting within the strategic approaches of the project. Ability to travel within the country is required.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement and oversee activities for increased stakeholder engagement in sustainable fisheries;
- Identify incentives and disincentives for behavior change in the fishing sector and implement activities to use these levers to impact change;
- Provide guidance and assistance to the team on research methodologies, statistical analysis and assist in editing and drafting of scientific and other reports;
- Manage consultants and partners involved in stakeholder engagement and communications activities;
- Develop and manage program communications plan and activities (rural radio, project newsletters and success stories, relevant international days, local leaders network, youth photography etc.);
- Serve as focal point for project communications with USAID and the media;
- Any other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications and experience
- Masters in rural or natural resources sociology, development communications, social science research, or political economy analysis. PhD desirable.
- 5 years’ experience in a natural resource management sector, preferably fisheries or coastal resource management including proven experience on behavior change and stakeholder engagement
- 3 years’ experience in participatory research development or applied research with proven statistical analysis skills
- Knowledge of USAID communications and reporting requirements desirable
- Strong written communication and presentation skills in French and English
- Spoken English at an intermediate level
- Capacity to take initiative, innovate and work in a team
Work location
The primary work location will be at Dekkal Geej Project office in Dakar. However, visits to project sites located outside of Dakar is anticipated throughout the life of the project.
