PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Reporting to the Regional RAM advisor, you will generate and contribute to Research Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) evidence base that supports food security and nutrition policies and programmes in West and Central Africa.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for the following duties:
• Manage the RBD RAM Unit’s internal and external communication activities (publications, webinars, workshops, communication campaigns etc.), with a specific focus on the products stemming from RBD’s geospatial analysis workstream, including analysis notes, presentations and other documents.
• Develop innovative analysis products covering food security and monitoring trends in the region and ensure the production and regular dissemination of key regional reports, including the quarterly Food Security Highlights, RAM Periodical, and WFP Operational Achievements.
• Support the analysis of cropland dynamics derived from satellite imagery in hard-to-reach areas of West & Central Africa, interpreting possible correlations with violent events and local socio-political contexts. To do so, a variety of datasets, including georeferenced ones, will have to be manipulated.
• Support the RBD RAM Unit in developing and maintaining strategic external partnerships to strengthen evidence generation, including with regional, government and UN/other partners and universities from the region.
• Support the implementation of RAM’s new research pillar, which includes developing new funding proposals, research studies, sourcing funding, and partaking in research studies.
• Prepare quality reports, memos, proposals, concept notes for ad hoc requests from RB RAM, RB Management and Country Offices including through data visualisation.
• Support food security analysis and monitoring activities in the region, including the Cadre Harmonisé (CH) exercises, with a specific focus on urban food security. Act as RBD focal point for WFP’s corporate urban workstream, contributing to WFP’s urban strategy, tools, and systems for WFP and the region, to further build evidence on urban workstreams.
• Support emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs. More specifically, support Country Offices make use of locality-level results derived from satellite imagery
• Help organise and participate in capacity building workshops in the scope of the ECHO satellite project.

Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

EDUCATION:
• Advanced University degree in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Data Science, Geography, GIS/Remote Sensing, or other related field, or first university degree with additional years of related work experience. A specialization and/or expertise in geospatial data analysis is a strong advantage.


WORK EXPERIENCE:
• At least 5 years of progressive work experience in food security analysis, monitoring & evaluation, geospatial analysis and/or GIS applications.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Strong communication skills, including report drafting, preparation of presentations and communication materials, data visualisations and other products are expected.
• A good understanding of the food security context of West Africa is a strong advantage.
• Demonstrated expertise in food security, statistics, geospatial analysis, GIS and mapping and/or data visualization is expected.

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS:
• Ability to compile, maintain and analyze data, prepare reports, and draw initial conclusions and recommendations.
• Ability in data visualization and producing simplified information products that simplifies complex data without compromising on the analysis.
• Eagerness to learn, curiosity to explore new tools and to apply them to operational contexts.
• Ability to work in a team, and maintain effective work relationships with counterparts at national, regional and headquarter level.
• Effective and timely interaction with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally
• High flexibility to travel frequently in the region.
• Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural background.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with country/regional counterparts and staff within the office, host population, donors, NGOs and other UN agencies.

LANGUAGE:
• Excellent command of French and ability to present information clearly and concisely in French.
• Fluency (level C) in English language.
