The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) is inviting proposals from interested researchers, practitioners, or nonprofit organizations for Annual USIP Myanmar Program Research to conduct research that will further the research priorities of the USIP Burma program.

USIP has been working in Burma since 2012 and established an office in Yangon in 2016. USIP implements programs that aim to promote prevent, mitigate and resolve inter-communal conflict, foster the development of a more responsive and accountable security sector, and strengthen the capacity of communities and government to address the conflict implications of development projects.

To better understand and address the underlying drivers of conflict in Burma, USIP conducts research itself and commissions research through partner organizations and independent researchers in Burma.

Scope of Work

The Burma program will support research that informs policymaking and/or programming that addresses one or multiple of the following issue areas:

The Political Economy of Conflict;
Natural Resource Governance, Environment and Conflict;
Policing and Security Actors;
Myanmar’s Path to Peace: Lessons from the Past and Paths Forward;
Youth, National identity and Conflict.
Funding Information

Budget: The available budget differs by the type of research that is proposed. Budget ceilings range from $5,000 for a policy report to $35,000 for a 50-page report with field research.
Number of Awards: Up to 4 organizational contracts.

Language: All proposal materials and budgets must be in English. The final research product(s) may be written in Burmese or English.
