USAID recruits 01 Head of Project Accountabilty Initiative*

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Kabul, Afghanistan.

The USAID-funded project “Afghanistan Accountability Initiative – Ensuring Inclusive Futures” aims to foster joint design thinking processes between Afghan civil society organizations (CSOs) and local communities to help CSOs better represent and advocate for their constituents and Afghan citizens. As Head of Project you will be responsible for the coordination, planning and operational implementation of the project and ensure an appropriate use of funds. In doing so, you will be supported by a technical expert who is familiar with the design thinking process and the research components of the project.

Your responsibilities

  • Carrying out the project according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors and Welthungerhilfe
  • Ensuring that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance, administration, etc.)
  • Modifying and continuing project planning and the project budget
  • Planning, coordination and monitoring of activities and ensuring compliance with the project proposal and the cooperation agreement signed with USAID
  • Managing an optimal coherence between Welthungerhilfe, the partners of the project consortium and the participating communities
  • Supporting the relationship with USAID, in close coordination with the Head of Programmes
  • Correct and duly reporting to Welthungerhilfe’s Country Office and USAID as donor of the project
  • Representing Welthungerhilfe in-country vis-à-vis with selected relevant national and international stakeholders and partners in coordination with the Head of Programmes and the Country Director

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in development/humanitarian aid or qualifications that are commensurate with this position
  • At least 3 years of project management experience in carrying out transitional/development projects with international aid agencies
  • Working experience in accountability and civil society development
  • Experience in agile management methodologies is a plus
  • Proven knowledge of the USAID rules and regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work under time pressure and, sometimes, high workload
  • Proven reporting and organizational skills, with proficiency in writing for different audiences
  • Ability to work in an insecure environment and committed to adhere to strict security procedures
  • Excellent spoken and written English; German language skills would be an asset
